Good afternoon.
ive recently purchased a Q90T. I came from a 2015 Samsung which had no frame rate issues at all.
The Q90T is great in every way apart from when watching Freesat or Now TV. Both of these broadcast in 50hz/50p. So I assume it’s something to do with this frame rate.
what happens is that when there is a small amount of motion on screen such as an interview or no panning etc then the screen shows something similar to the frame rate dropping in half and everything stuttering. Once motion picks up or shot pans around then it goes back to normal.
I had all picture clarity settings set to off but I then played around with settings such as judder reduction and blur reduction etc to see if I could eliminate the stutter but nothing works.
its really bad watching football on free sat or now tv as it’s stutters quite a lot.
weirdly, not all programmes stutter. I’ve watched some catch up tv on now tv as well as movies and these show perfectly without any stuttering and all content on Netflix etc are all fine as well.
I am on the latest firmware.
any ideas if this is common or if there is a fix as nothing I’ve tried works.
thank you

How is your new Sony compared to the Samsung? Is that an OLED or LED/LCD?

Waiting on delivery.
It's got "TRILUMINOS" which is basically Sony's QLED marketing nonsense.
It's pretty much as top line an LED set as you can get. OLED makes me nervous with burn in - seen the father-in-laws LG OLED in a bit of a state so that put me off.
And as I said before, price is a factor for me. I'm not going down from 85" to a 77" OLED for another £1k, maybe next time (when the screens are bigger).

Would be very interested on your findings once you've tested it.

I would like to share the test footage I've been using and also a recording made of my TV displaying that test footage so you can see the bad movement processing artefacts I get. I just wanted to be sure I am experiencing the same problem as the rest of you. You can also play my test footage on your own TV and see how yours handles it. (transfer to USB flash drive)
I couldn't upload the clips here so I have uploaded a 7zip file of them to my website:-
https://dhcomputing.co.uk/images/Movement_tests.7z
(You may need to download 7zip to extract it)
Apple_advert-MyTV.mov is a recording of my TV playing an Apple TV advert that shows the movement processing issue quite badly. Especially when the Apple computer screens are moving around, you can see the sides have shimmering artefacts. Also at 00:50 where the screen transistions to the "ch4" logo with a diagonal sweep also shows artefacts.
Apple_advert-SOURCE.ts is the original source video file from the test above taken from my Humax DVR for you to try. If I play this on another TV or my computer I don't get the bad affects
4-logo.MOV My TV showing the artefacts transitioning to the "4 logo" as described above
4-logo-still.PNG A still photo of the sweep showing artefacts on the diagonal line
Let me know if you see the same bad effects. It would be interesting to know if this a good piece of test footage for reproducing the problem. It makes the problem for me everytime on the Q90T, fine on another older TV and my computer.

Sure no bother, I'll report back.
Limited choice when up at 85" unfortunately, but I am confident I'll prefer this Sony to the flaccid mess that was the Q80T.

Still waiting for a response from Senior Customer Services Executive Kirsty Caswell.
I'm in the market to buy a new TV but it's looking increasingly unlikely to be a Samsung if they can't answer a straightforward question ... they seem reluctant to admit to any problems with the Q2020T range as indicated on the forums.
So far I have no reason to believe that the 2021 range will be any different ... just thankful that I trusted my instincts and returned my Q85T for a full refund before I was stuck with their problem.

Update
Response today from Samsung UK Senior Customer Services Executive Kirsty Caswell.
Quote:
"I recognize that another model had a small number of customers reporting motion judder which was under investigation and provided with a temporary resolve through settings adjustment. As above this was a different model to the Q85T"
The use of the past tense speaks volumes to me ... live with your temporary workarounds cause we're not looking for a permanent fix.

Yes there short term fix is to put in game mode and deal with it,they also didn't come up with that fix .they also say use filmmaker mode which they say turns off all motion ,but it doesn't, so they never tested it!!.THEY ARE JUST BLUFFERS!!.

Very true Rev ... the response from Samsung Senior Customer Services doesn't fill me with any confidence ... they are acknowledging a problem yet when you contact their web chat service or the retailer and make an enquiry you are always the first to have reported it.
I don't narrow this down to just Samsung but there appears to be an attitude amongst customer services in general who think it is acceptable to stall and obstruct along the way in the hope that you will simply go away.

Probably my last update on the matter and this is a direct quote from the Samsung Senior Customer Services Executive - Kirsty Caswell - this afternoon, relating to juddering and stuttering on a Q85T Qled TV:
"I have spoken with our AV department who have advised that while it will be a challenge to clarify completely as the television in question is not available for inspection, this does appear to be working to specification for this model."
That response has sealed the deal for me, I was giving the benefit of doubt but never again will I buy a Samsung product after that statement from senior management ... if you have this issue with your TV then Samsung know about it, you can expect it to happen and they will do nothing to fix it.
