**Samsung 2020 Series TV Motion/Judder/Stutter/Frame Rate (Firmware Bug/Glitch)**

Good afternoon.

ive recently purchased a Q90T. I came from a 2015 Samsung which had no frame rate issues at all.

The Q90T is great in every way apart from when watching Freesat or Now TV. Both of these broadcast in 50hz/50p. So I assume it’s something to do with this frame rate.

what happens is that when there is a small amount of motion on screen such as an interview or no panning etc then the screen shows something similar to the frame rate dropping in half and everything stuttering. Once motion picks up or shot pans around then it goes back to normal.

I had all picture clarity settings set to off but I then played around with settings such as judder reduction and blur reduction etc to see if I could eliminate the stutter but nothing works.

its really bad watching football on free sat or now tv as it’s stutters quite a lot.

weirdly, not all programmes stutter. I’ve watched some catch up tv on now tv as well as movies and these show perfectly without any stuttering and all content on Netflix etc are all fine as well.

I am on the latest firmware.

any ideas if this is common or if there is a fix as nothing I’ve tried works.

thank you

Hi folks,

I'm experiencing this annoying issue, too. Details:

- 85-inch Q90T

- Based in USA

- 48gbps HDMI 2.1-capable cable

- PS5, Xbox Series X, Apple TV connected

- Marantz receiver

I bought this TV to game in 120fps 4K HDR and I'm happy to report that it works and looks beautiful. I also chose the Q90T over the LG CX because it has super brightness, and my living room is far from light-controlled (or even remotely dark).

Anyway, long story short, everything looked great until my wife and I watched The Crown last night. Then we noticed on every slow camera pan, the screen would stutter / judder as though the framerate was dropping from 30fps to 20fps for just a few seconds. Then the motion would resume normally. I could duplicate this on Queen's Gambit, but so far that's it. No other Netflix show does it. None of my iTunes movies do it. Obviously none of my games do it, but of course they run in game mode.

I tried everything. I disconnected from the Marantz receiver and plugged directly into the high-bandwidth HDMI port on the TV. I tried running in 4K SDR, and that seemed a little better, but that's a stupid sacrifice we shouldn't have to make. I played with all of the TV's internal settings and nothing really worked.

The ONLY thing that fixes it, in my experience, is to go into the Apple TV Settings > Video and Audio > Match Content, and then turn on match framerate.

Judder gone. But a new issue is introduced: suddenly the TV takes an extra two seconds to load everything as the Q90T and the Apple TV negotiate with each other and get their sources in line. It's better--and it works--but it's super annoying. And frankly, for the amount of money we all pay for these TVs, we shouldn't be made to sacrifice at all.

Now I'm torn: do I just deal with the issue when it pops up by switching the setting in Apple TV, or do shudder the judder altogether, return this set, and go with the LG CX instead.

Does anybody have an update on a firmware fix? Surely Samsung can't be ignoring something like this.

I had this too with the Q95T and returned the set to the store. Would have kept it if I was 100% sure there would be a patch, but I didn't want to risk having to live with this forever.

For me it happened watching from my PC when using 50/60/100/120hz. Using 24hz fixes it, but manually switching that every time I watch a video would be ridiculous. PC Mode and Game Mode also fix the judder, but then some of the picture quality is sacrificed.

I hope this gets fixed for other people. Heck, if it gets fixed soon I might buy the same screen again.

Identical experience for me. I am still in my return window. I researched the Sony 900h but also complaints regarding 120hz input. I’m wondering if any tv is going to have some downside. Doesn’t seem like a lot to ask for everything to work or at least acknowledge the issues and communicate a plan.

For now I'm just hoping I can find a second hand Q90R, because that one apparently doesn't have the same problem as long as you turn off the motion smoothing options. It does seem like a silly problem to have on what is supposed to be the best 4K QLED money can buy.

Has anyone managed to find good settings to help fix this? It is driving me insane

The only thing that I’ve found to work is switching on game mode.

I got my new Samsung Q95T yesterday and I'm getting the same problem. I'm watching through a Sky Q 4K HDR box (32B206) and have the latest TV firware installed (1403.1). I've turned OFF the Picture Clarity Settings, Intelligent Mode Settings and Eco Solution which should, in theory, get rid of all of the annoying image processing that makes thing unwatchable. It looks like there's still some sort of image processing running though. I'm upgrading from a Samsung KS9000 that exhibits similar issues when image processing is enabled, but these all go away when disabling the image processing. As it stands I'm just about to give Currys a call to tell them I'm returning it. It's a shame, as apart from that the TV seems to be excellent.

Yes unfortunately this seems to be case that some image processing is still on and isn’t shutting off completely. Samsung must have had so many returns on this tv and for a fix to still not be available is unbelievable.

Just tested out enabling Game Mode and I can verify that the picture is really smooth with this enabled. What are the downsides of just having this enabled all the time?

Yes game mode is the only thing that helps with any external sources. However, it doesn’t help with apps built in as the apps run in normal mode and cannot be run in game mode.

on the whole, game mode is ok as a temporary fix. However, you will probably notice a lot more blooming (look at a dark screen with some white in bottom or top etc and you’ll see a lot more of the screen has a brighter area than it should). Also, noticed some colour looks a little washed out.
