Hi,
Ever since I updated my S95B 65" from update 1622 to update 1651, the TV incorrectly defaults to TV speakers but with a visual bug on startup. This means I can no longer control the volume through CEC until I change the sound output even though it shows the sound output to be correctly outputting through my AVR.
My setup: Samsung S95B QD-OLED TV, Arcam AVR550, and Chromecast 4K with Google TV. The Chromecast is plugged into the AVR.
My AVR powers my floor standing speakers. I never use the TV speakers.
I use the TV remote to control the AVR's volume via CEC. I have setup the Chromecast remote to also control the TV's volume (IR) so that the TV changes the AVR's volume via CEC same as the TV remote.
Expected behaviour: At startup, using the TV remote or the Chromecast remote should change the AVR's volume via CEC.
Behaviour: At startup, the whole setup outputs sound via the AVR but when I try to change the AVR's volume via TV CEC, either using the TV remote or the Chromecast remote, the TV speakers volume changes instead.
Upon further investigation, I use the TV remote to access quick settings. The sound output selection shows that it is outputting via the AVR (which it is, but I can't change AVR volume via CEC). But if I press on the selection using the OK button once to change sound output, the selection flashes from AVR to TV Speakers and back to AVR again, as if it's a visual bug. With this visual bug out of the way, I can change the volume using the remotes as usual (expected behaviour).
This visual glitch seems to happen often when I start the setup using the Chromecast (TV starts via CEC). The visual glitch may not always happen and sometimes the sound output will falsely show TV Speakers as the startup output instead.
Version 1622 never had this inconsistency. No matter how the system boots up, the TV can communicate with the AVR via CEC without needing to "change" the sound output once first.
Any help is much appreciated. Any questions please ask and I'll do my best to answer.
Edited: Clarification and further findings.
Edit 2: I'm working around this issue by setting the Chromecast remote to control volume via Auto (CEC) rather than Samsung TV (IR). At least the Chromecast knows that the AVR is supposed to be the default audio device, so I can now use the Chromecast remote to change volume consistently again. The volume steps are slower to respond but I can live with that. Plus, since this is CEC, and the remote connects to the Chromecast via Bluetooth, I can adjust the volume without relying on IR, meaning I no longer have to point the remote at the TV to adjust volume. All in all it turned out for the better. Still, I'd rather be given the choice than being forced to find a workaround, Samsung.

I have the exact same issue since update 1651 on the same model - S95B 65". Very annoying to get an update which breaks something.

I've found that turning the whole setup on using the TV remote works as intended where sound defaults to the AVR (most of the time).
I have an S95B and an Arcam AVR550 with a Chromecast 4K with Google TV plugged into the AVR. My whole setup turns on by either turning on the TV or the Chromecast as other components in the chain will wake up via CEC.
If I turn the TV on using voice commands (Google) or turning the whole setup on with the Chromecast remote, TV sound defaults to TV speakers (but it shows AVR in the settings, and sound outputs to AVR, but I can only change TV speaker volume).
Going to the audio settings by pressing the settings icon on the remote -> sound output select, will show the TV as outputting through the AVR (and this is true) but when I change the volume the TV volume changes instead. If I press the OK button once to change sound output, the selection flashes for a split second from AVR to TV speakers and back to AVR again, as if it's a visual bug. Once this visual glitch is out of the way, I can once again control the AVR's volume using the TV remote via CEC.
Turning on the TV using the TV remote and the picture will flicker once more than usual and sound defaults to the AVR.
Old behaviour on version 1622 doesn't have this inconsistency. The sound always defaults correctly to the AVR no matter how I start up the setup, whether via Chromecast (CEC) using the voice commands or its remote, or by using the TV remote to turn on the TV.

Are you using a HDMI v2.1 cable? I was using an old v1.3 which was causing my sound to auto change back to TV speaker, and sometimes had no sound altogether. Bought a new 2.1 cable and the issue was fixed.

Not sure if that will resolve my issue since everything was working fine before 1651.
Also, if I turn the whole system on with the TV remote, the TV correctly defaults speakers to the AVR. But if I use the Chromecast remote to turn on the whole system, the TV incorrectly defaults to TV speakers.
I will regardless try getting a better HDMI cable, though I'm not holding out much hope on it.
