I just received my 83" S90C and I have to say that I was excited to get it but after receiving it I am growing frustrated with making the picture useable. Comments below and beg for help. I may send it back if I cannot get what I consider to be a useable image.
Out of the box movies are UNWATCHABLE, even in a dark room. I am frankly SHOCKED it looks so bad. Moviemaker mode sucks Nuts. My room is completely dark and the image appears terribly dark.
I spent several hours playing with the settings while watching The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. When they go down into the boat at the beginning you could not see anything! It sucked. I finally settled on Vivid mode because it was the ONLY setting that I feel made the TV bright enough to be watchable. Second best is Standard Mode.
I spent time tweaking the settings. So many of them are grayed out and not useable. I had to spend time going to Google to figure out why. Modes in Vivid are disabled and other settings.
I feel like whites are not bright even though this is WOLED. The HDR settings make HDR movies have great range but sacrifice peak brightness poorly and the shadows look way too dark. The only way to improve this is sacrificing contrast and or gamma.
I am not a TV expert but I am surprised that the TV is not better. I wanted an 83" OLED TV but now I am considering sending it back and getting the new Sony Bravia 9 Mini LED after seeing it in the store. I just don't feel like the brightness even compares to a movie in a cinema in any setting other than Vivid.
Did I get a bad TV???????????????? It was supposedly a "Refreshed TV" via Amazon. Is it possible the panel is bad? Do they lose brightness with age? Are there variations in panel brightness? Is it possible that there are TV's with worse panels they sell this way due to inconsistent quality?
For $3200 the TV ought to be better. My 2007 56" Sony Bravia XBR although less colorful, is more watchable.
Sad and frustrated

@BCN0209 onviously you have tried quite a few settings and tweaks to no avail. just checking if you have disabled Intelligent Mode and the Ambient Light Detection, sometimes that can make a difference. it may not solve it though, you could also try a Factory Reset?
Another idea is to try the Samsung Smart calibration as shown here https://eftm.com/2023/12/why-you-should-use-samsung-smart-calibration-to-tweak-the-picture-on-your-t...
I do not work for Samsung or make Samsung Products but provide independent advice and valuable contributions.
