LPCM support QLED 2020?

Sonos recently updated their soundbars to have multichannel LPCM support. I have a PS5 and I am trying this on my Q85T. However, using passthrough on TV and LPCM on PS5, I get Stereo 2.0 output. I asked Samsung and they said that the Q85T does NOT have LPCM support!? Is this true? Seems like such an oversight on Samsung's part.

Instead, I use passthrough on TV and Dolby Bitstream on PS5 and it gives me DD 5.1, which is good but not as good as LPCM.

Thanks JWard! Can you post the number of your support ticket so that I may reference it in my support case as well?

I have resolver case ref which is: RES9775482

Internal customer reference number for this is *****.

They stated

"Having reviewed your latest conversation with our technical department and investigation your concerns further i can see that they have advised that the

TV does have LPCM codec that produces  through the TV speakers but it
cannot re-encode it & output LPCM via HDMI-ARC/eARC.

We only output PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus – HDMI ARC &
Dolby Digital True HD – HDMI eARC.

If you want to L-PCM from a new games console you will need to connect a soundbar first then pass from the video to television.

As per the outcome of this and no known faults with this model we would stand by our technical teams findings with the television being deemed to work to specification and as advertised"

And closed the case

This is obviously not good enough as they have misled in the spec and we are protected by 2015 customer rights act specifically product was at fault at purchase and not as described

I have a new resolver case open due to the same thing

RES10019578

Samsung reference: *****

Samsung have commented on this saying that I have an additional complaint open and someone will ring me next week after reviewing all the info. I havent been given the that complaint reference yet

Also....

Support chat transcript from August 12 2021 stated:

"Upon coordinating, TV does have LPCM codec that produce through the TV speakers but it cannot re-encode it & output LPCM via HDMI-ARC/eARC. It only output PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus – HDMI ARC & Dolby Digital True HD – HDMI eARC. In the event that we want to use L-PCM from a new Game console you will need to connect to Soundbar first then pass Video to TV."

Hope this helps :face-with-tears-of-joy:

Hi guys, do you now if this fix the earc issue for you? https://www.youtube.com/shorts/djERECXjNqg
Turn on tv, go the menu and turn of earc, then turn on Earc again and it should work..... anyone tried it?

That doesn't do anything to provide LPCM passthrough over eARC because that is a feature not supported by the TV.

You have a few options.

You can (as mentioned above) purchase a soundbar that goes BEFORE the TV, so you plug the PS5 into the soundbar, then the soundbar outputs audio/video over HDMI to the TV.

You can use an external splitter like the HDFury Arcana (I owned and used one with my Frame). It splits off an eARC signal to your soundbar, while the TV receives only video. It worked, but I found it to be too much trouble, because then it requires an HDMI switch if you want to have more than one source plugged into the TV.

You can use only the internal apps on the TV. Internal apps can send LPCM over eARC because they are not needing to decode/reencode the signal like a passthrough connection does. Obviously this doesn't help with the PS5, but for media streaming it's an option.

If the PS5 is capable of outputting Dolby Digital 5.1, that will work over eARC because it is a compressed format.

In my particular case I sold the Frame TV and purchased a different brand which has LPCM passthrough over eARC and the problem was permanently solved.

Thank you for the informative answer. So the best solution would be for me to get a soundbar who support hdmi 2.1 4k120hz. If not like the q990b limited to 4k60hz. I think ps5 support DD 5.1.

Probably stupid question but i just bought the latest Apple tv 2022 who support HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. If i remember correctly this tv support HDR10+ so earc should work fine with this Apple tv model?

They falsy advertised the feature. You can still read it from their adds and userguide. All you need to do is show them and you will get some compensation.

But if you want to get the lpcm to work you will need the soundbar setup as mentioned earlier, buy hdmi 2.1 supported amplifier or buy Sony tv.
