Hi all

My tv has started to freeze at random times, the remote control becomes useless for switching channels or coming out of apps etc. The only way to get it to work again is to either unplug it or hold the power button on the remote for 5seconds to reboot it.

It’s on the latest firmware version. Any ideas what could be causing this and is there any way to force a reinstall of the firmware?

Many thanks in advance

Hi
If your Samsung TV is freezing, the most common solutions are to perform a power cycle by unplugging the TV for a few minutes and then plugging it back in, check your internet connection, update the TV firmware, or restart the app you are using; if the issue persists, you may need to try a factory reset or contact Samsung customer support.

Here are a few steps to troubleshoot a freezing Samsung TV:

Basic power cycle:

Turn off the TV using the remote.

Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet for at least 30 seconds.

Plug the TV back in and turn it on.

Check your internet connection:

Ensure your router is functioning properly and your internet speed is sufficient for streaming.

Try restarting your router.

Update TV firmware:

Go to Settings > Support > Software Update on your TV and check for available updates.

Restart the app:

If the freezing happens within a specific app, close the app and relaunch it.

Check for overheating:

Make sure your TV is not placed in a confined space with poor ventilation.

Factory reset (last resort):

Navigate to Settings > General > Factory Data Reset.

Note that this will erase all your TV settings and saved data.

When to contact Samsung support:

If the issue persists after trying basic troubleshooting steps.

If the TV is still under warranty.

If you suspect a hardware problem

Judging by your description, you may have two problems: either there is no free memory in the TV, or the power supply is faulty, the capacitors are dry.

Thanks, I’ve reset everything and it’s running latest firmware. There’s also 45% storage available.

the tv is now out of warranty, is the power supply swap easy enough to do?

Ideally, you should verify the voltage supplied by the power supply, or check if the capacitors on the main board are faulty. This task is best handled by a specialist.
