I have a Samsung UE75TU7000KXXU TV and when watching HDR content the dark scenes are unwatchable.
I have gone through the expert picture settings to see if anything can get this working but to no avail.
I use both built in apps and an external Apple TV, as this allows the viewing of extras that the app does not.
I have the issue with everything that I watch that has HDR content.
If I cannot get this resolved then I may need to return the TV and purchase a competitors as this is a big issue to me.
I look forward to you getting back to me as soon as you can.

I have 55” Q95 and the same problem with HDR as almost all people. It’s great that some people found there solution with an external player like a PlayStation. I bought this screen last year for more than €2000. The least you may aspect from a screen of this kind of money, that you can enjoy of it’s full potential in all formats without buying an external player.
@Samsung, be ashamed of yourselves! People pay a lot of money for your products. Offcourse there can be something that’s not working properly but it’s your responsability to take care of it. Many people complain about it but Samsung never came with a solution or fix.
I want to upgrade to a 65” but it’s not gonna be a Samsung anymore. In my opinium, Samsung made good screens. I had several screens but this is my last one. I expected so much from this screen but I’m never been so disappointed.

Hi everyone,
Honestly, and it might be a little biased opinion, but I don't feel that HDR titles would be that bad on my Samsung QLED anymore. I checked several Netflix titles on my iPad (shows regular SDR content) compared to my TV (shows the HDR content), and don't see any major difference in colors, brightness, contrast now... maybe the HDR is even better as it should be. Not sure if I just changed the settings on the TV so that those simply "cover" the issues, so that I don't see the above parameters off in any ways, OR some recent SW update just fixed it. Really hard to measure.
Another experience: I watched HDR content on a Sony OLED screen recently, and wasn't that impressed. It wasn't worse or better at all. Before roasting me: I know, it's different technology, different settings, maybe different content source, but still...
Overall: I don't feel any pain watching Netflix HDR contents on my Samsung anymore with these settings.

Hi Norbert what are the TV settings that you used on your Samsung TV to get better HDR picture quality?

Sure, I can show you my settings. It does not necessarily mean, that these are the good settings (obviously) for everyone, but do work for me. I use these for daylight and night times too even if it's not professional. I attached the screenshots, just simpler then writing down all the numbers. (Please ignore Netflix's Hungarian labels, those don't matter at all )

Thank you Norbert! Do you have to change the settings back if you are not watching HDR content or do these settings work for all situations?

Yep, again, I know it's kind of unprofessional, but I use this for all sources. It pretty much works for me. I just watched "Once upon a time in Hollywood" which is 4K HDR Netflix content, and looks pretty good for me even in dark room or in ambient light environment. Hope it will will work for you as well. Still no SW updates or any tweaks since my last comment.

Ah, one more thing RussN, basically if you set up the parameters for HDR I believe it stores it for HDR signal only. If you set up something else for SDR, it's another setting, even if "use it for all sources" is checked. Not 100% sure, but I think that's how it works.

That didn’t work. Anyone have fixes for this?

Sorry to hear that. Anyway, it's hard to compare what you see and what I see, also hard to measure if picture quality is good or not having different viewing conditions, maybe different TV models and titles. When I started researching why HDR contents look dim found a bunch of comments from experts and regular users saying it would never be the same until you get a high-end panel that would provide 10000+ nits brightness.
It would be good, to compare how the same HDR content looks on another TV in the same category but from a different brand. I watched Dune 4K HDR on a Sony OLED panel recently, which uses Dolby Vision technology and was a way more expensive TV, but didn't see any major differences in brightness level - it was a little dark and smooth - however that movie is intentionally dark a little bit.
At the end of the day it can turn out that HDR won't perfectly work in these TVs for all titles (especially the ones showing dark scenes), but will be okay in totally dark room conditions --> cinema, where picture is also a little dim and smooth if you compare it with your regular dark room TV brightness.
