While tinkering with the TV as I wrote the above, I Idly clicked support request, only to receive a call from an Eastern support centre. I allowed remote access while on the line, the agent said she was going to try something, but I think it was just a reset of sorts. I did have to reenter my WiFi password. No change anyway. When I demonstrated the problem she asked was I not using the player app, but it doesn't exist for Virgin Media, and I reminded her of the security cams and church cams and other feeds that dint have apps and no longer work. She said that the sites were no longer compatible with the browser, but I said its the other way around, the browser is broken and remains that way on much newer sets. She said she couldn't restore the old version remotely, but at least she now fully understood the problem looking at my screen remotely, and is going to escalate it. That's the last I'll probably hear about it, but I was impressed with the quick response, even if it was still bedtime here, probably mid morning over there.
