I've just bought a UE43AU8000, and I'm having an issue with the audio setup. It's connected to a Sony DAV-DZ260 DVD Home Theater System via HDMI (on the ARC port) and Optical.
The main issue is that when you switch the audio output on the TV from 'TV Speakers' to 'Receiver (HDMI)', it will switch back to 'TV Speakers' in a few seconds. In the few seconds it is outputting to 'Receiver (HDMI)' everything is working perfectly, audio is being outputted over the optical cable, and volume control is going over HDMI. Switching it to 'Optical' output does stick, but obviously I lose volume control.
Now I realise that the receiver is pretty old now, and doesn't support ARC or eARC, but the TV is capable of doing exactly what I want, it just won't stay there.
Does anyone know how to fix this, and get it to stay on the 'Receiver (HDMI)' output setting?

I don't know if I want to read through ten pages, but I searched this issue forever. I ended up going into expert settings and turning earc from auto to off and it instantly switched to my Denon receiver.

It seems as is on the newer TVs or at least the new firmware the receiver / soundbar HAS to support ARC. I just had this problem with a Samsung TU 7000 when outputting to an older Sony XTH1 soundbar.
My issue turned out to be the ARC function was disabled on my soundbar. My older Samsung TVs didn't care about that setting but the new ones sure do.
Hope this helps at least a few people out with this.

I have the same Sony system and I am having exactly the same issue since yesterday, tv speaker keeps turning on after 10 seconds of changing it to HDMi in Settings. My son wonders if there has been a recent update that is causing a problem. I can still get sound through my receiver if I turn the tv speaker down, but obviously have to use the Sony remote control to turn volume up and down.

NorSam: you are the man! My Samsung tv after 2 years with the Samsung sound bar just started going to the TV speakers yesterday. Followed all kinds of advise here and nothing worked. But when I read your post I went into Settings > General > Manage External Units -. I set my HDMI 1 to also be eArc and switched my HDMI cable from HDMI 4 to HDMI 1 and it works perfectly. THANKS !!!

This just started on my UN65RU8000FXZA. The only connected sound bar is a Samsung R5 Series connected through HDMI ARC port. Sound would revert to TV speakers after a few seconds even after switching to soundbar output with the remote. Very frustrating. I tried a factory reset of the TV, unplugging the TV, soundbar, and all HDMI cables, and every solution posted here to no avail. It seems to be related to a recent firmware update, but I'm not completely sure.
Here's what is working for me ...for now. TV Device Manager->Clean Memory Boost, then Clean Running Apps. My soundbar is now working like it's supposed to.
Hopefully, this will help someone else. However, I'm not particularly optimistic given that many of the solutions here that seem to work for others did not work for me. Give it a try, though - only takes a few minutes.
Should also mention that I have to do this every time I turn on the TV. It's not been a one-and-done solution. Yes, it's pretty %$#@ing annoying, but it restores my HDMI audio.

This has been a long standing issue with Samsung TVs. Their TVs are anti competative. Only samsung speakers will work properly. What can you do?

Samsung Tvs do not work with any soundbars that are not Samsung. You can pay $1200 for their soundbar but.....uh no.

I was experiencing the same issue with the S95B, switching from my audio processor to TV speaker.
What worked for me was:
All settings > sounds > expert settings > ucheck/deselect Dolby Atmos
Hope this helps!

A friend of mine who worked at Best Buy said that he does not recommend Samsung TVs to any of his friends. I wish I had talked to him first. He likes LG the best and also says Sony is OK.
