All attempts to to rectify have failed- open in safe mode , checkfor updstes etc.

I have noticed that the app is not displayed in, "Default Apps" as on my phone.

Does anyone have a fix for this?

Tablets don't have phone apps.

Well it says it's a phone and I've used it as a phone via my A71 mobile.

If it was a phone you wouldn't need to involve your A71. What you were using was calling and texting in other devices.

Yeah, that's it.
The app icon on my tablet is identical to the one on my phone, a picture of a phone with phone written underneath it, hence why i called it a phone app.
Anyhow, it used to work and now it doesn't

OK . Couple of things to try.
On the tablet swipe down to access the Quick Settings menu and locate and tap the phone icon and see if it works.

The other is to access the Quick Settings menu and tap the phone icon on both tabs simultaneously.

have you made sure your current sim is still provisioned for cellular calls as as well as data ?

Hi,
How do I check if the current sim is provisioned for cellular calls as well as data?
I'm afraid it's beyond my limited technical knowledge

First I would check if the sim works in any other device, to rule out SIM card issue
