Hi,

My Mum's s9 Ultra has started displaying the recently used app icons on the bottom of the screen all the time.  She is 93 and has macular degeneration so any loss of screen space is a problem for her as she has the text sixes set to maximum and the point of buying the s9 Ultra was to maximise text size and space. Can this feature be turned off?

Also apps now tend to appear in a small screen mode with the diagonal two-ended arrow, which she struggles to see, being the way to maximise them to full screen. How can I disable this behaviour and get everything opened in full screen all the time?

Thanks in anticipation.

@Theives: This is unexpected, as toggling off the Taskbar via Settings > Display should remove it from the bottom of the screen. Are the apps opening in a pop-up window when they are selected via the Taskbar? If so, try tapping the 'All apps' button (9 dots in a square pattern, to the left of the Taskbar apps) and select the relevant app from here to see if this helps. I also recommend pressing and holding the Side button > Restart, to resolve any software issues which might be a contributing factor.

EDIT: I noticed that the Taskbar is currently greyed out. To troubleshoot the issue, please head to Settings > Apps > Choose default apps > Home app > Make sure that 'One UI Home' is selected. Also, head to Settings > Connected devices > Samsung DeX, and make sure that this feature is toggled off.

@Theives: I'm pleased to hear that you were able to identify DeX as the cause of the problem. As a side note, it is possible to activate DeX via the drop down Quick Panel, so this might be how the issue initially occurred.

To prevent any future issues, you may wish to swipe from the top of the screen to the bottom, then again to enlarge the Quick Panel > Tap the pencil symbol in the top right > Full (Edit) > Locate DeX in the Quick Panel > Tap the icon to remove it > Done.

Thanks very much AndrewL. I found that the tablet had indeed gone into DeX mode for some unknown reason. I exited DeX in the settings and now my Mum has use of the full screen and apps don't open in popup/small screen mode:)

Once again thanks. I have removed most of the options to limit the changes my Mum can make by mistake.
