My s9 tab was in airplane mode when the update happened. Subsequently, sat on a train requiring me to login to company portal before I could access the wider Internet, I was in the same annoying and frustrating situation.
I read switching networks would resolve things, but couldn't do so as couldn't access settings. It struck me to turn on my phones mobile hotspot, hoping it would have precedence over the train wifi. It did and it worked, switching networks allowed the process to complete (even though the tab was still in flight mode!?!?) Result, working tab.
Great one Samsung, what a disappointing, unintuitive and disruptive update.
