As an alternative to the defective Smartthings app, you might use SmartThings Find available at Samsung's website https://smartthingsfind.samsung.com. You should then sign in to the Samsung account used for registering the tag.

Apparently Samsung is aware of this defect and is working on it.
In the meanwhile, you can fix it with this manual action/workaround:
- Phone Settings > Applications > Android System Webview: (Top right) Options > Uninstall Updates.

Yep, seems to be working as it should at this point. Gotta turn off updates on this app. Samsung seems to screw up a lot more updates than most (well, except maybe Micro$ucks).
