I have a galaxy S23 Ultra I am hoping to trade-in next year for the S24 Ultra. Today I looked on the Samsung website for an idea of what I will get as trade-in value for my current phone.
Entering the current phone for a trade-in against the same model and configuration gives a maximum discount of £500. This seems extremely low for a model I spent £1249 nine months ago.
Presumably the trade-in value against the new model will be even less.
Can this be correct? I was expecting to get at least £800 for my current phone in good condition. Surely they're not valuing it at £500 after 9 months?

That is about right but usually at pre order they give you more for it. With samsung it's all about timing never buy when there is no deal on. I been wanting a tab s9 ultra since it came out, last week was the week to strike I paid £440 for it

Trading in will naturally be lower than you will want normally.
It all depends on the promotional offers at the time.
You may get say £500 for it. But potentially you can get a bump up in storage for the new device. There's normally a Disney subscription and As this year Buds 2 Pro.
Quite often get Samsung Care+ as well

Also Samsung usually offer reduced price for accessories or smartwatches when you purchase the device.

All depends on the offer at the time. Currently we won't know what Samsung will offer for the S24 range of devices until the time of the Unpacked Event

Don't forget that some network providers and retailers do their own offers as well on top.
It's all about shopping around at the time

Yeah I agree. Samsung Don't give you much value on a trade in. What they've offer is as much as what you'll get from them.

A £750 decrease in 9 months doesn't say much about what they value their own products at

If I paid £450 for the new Ultra model, that would be about what I expected. £750 is ridiculous

But if traded in last year then it would have costed between 600-800 depending on config so 500 is good

Trading in is the worst possible way to move anything on for value.
From phones to cars. You are going to get the lowest value if you don't get a promotional offer.
It's always been this way.
Money needs to be invested in reconditioning the devices and selling them on to other agencies that the move stock on. The other agencies will only pay so much as well.
If the device needs to be recycled, that's another cost as specialists are required to recycle things like batteries.

If you want a higher value, then you would have to sell it on privately.
Would be great to get a decent price for trading in, but unfortunately that's just not going to happen.
Even Apple don't give a decent price for trade in. I've tried before.

Smartphones are like cars, as soon as you leave the showroom it starts to decrease in value they just the same. If Samsung phones were any good then customers wouldn't trade them in as much like they do now.
