@jackielala sometimes it can help to turn Notification sounds off and on before Rebooting. Try the other advice, can check a visual guide for some indivdual apps here. https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/tips-how-to/how-do-i-personalise-app-notification-sounds-in-one-...
If only text effected can also go to Apps-Messages -storage and clear cache. If problems persist you may also need to try in Safe Mode. Sometimes there can be conflicts with 3rd party apps/themes and if ok in this mode this would pinpoint recent third party apps/themes which have been installed (if applicable). https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-to-start-my-galaxy-device-in-safe-mode/?srslti...
You may though need to clear the cache partition as mentioned, temporary cache files are deleted but your Data is intact. Some temporary cache files can become outmoded or even corrupt.
Follow these steps:
1. Turn off the device.
2. Connect To Computer , other Device or TV USB, Press and hold the Volume Up key and then press and hold the Power key
3. When the Android logo displays, release both keys.
4. Wait until the Android system recovery menu options appear.
5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
6. Press Power key to select.
7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

You could try >
Clear Cache Files from the phone's System Partition Section > https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-do-i-clear-the-cache-on-my-device/ You may need to insert your earphones or hook upto a powered On Laptop or use a Tv's USB Port to access the Clear Partition Section. This may help with lag or stutters as this clears the phone of old/unused or broken cache files.There is also a Repair Apps option in the Menu System too { Possibly excluding the s²⁴ Series of phone's }
Try a forced reboot by holding down the volume down key and power button simultaneously for more than 7 seconds to restart it. When your phone resets, you will feel it vibrate.
Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset All Settings.
If i can be of any further help please don't hesitate to ask 😎

Turn Bluetooth off and see if that fixes the issue. For me, the culprit was my Pixel watch which has a setting to mute notifications on phone while wearing the watch.

I have the same problem which started a couple of weeks ago, after getting the latest update: most audio work fine (so speakers are working), except for notifications; first it were only a couple of notification, but now they're all gone.

Not working:
I've cleared cache partitions as described above and "Reset all settings", unfortunately to no avail. Since the diabetes sensor alarm is really important to me (it's used to monitor my blood sugar levels and warns when they're too far off) I really need to fix this or buy another phone.
There are no Bluetooth devices (other than my BLE diabetes sensor) connected (and if I disable Bluetooth completely, notifications aren't restored), DND is off, all audio is on and on maximum
And if I do connect headphones over Bluetooth: the missing notifications are audible over the headphones.
My phone:

Been battling the same issue for months now. Started after a SW update to the phone.
Notification sounds only come through if I'm listening to music or on the phone talking.
It is absolutely horrible and not a single person at Samsung can fix it. Often, they will try to blame your carrier. Which is odd that in another forum discussing this issue, there at least 3 different carriers with the same problem. It is definitely a Samsung issue that they wont/can't fix.

The problem seems to be the car bluetooth. But when I get a call, the phone rings, so I switch the car audio to bluetooth input. But how do I "check that the sound is directed to the phone instead"?
