Setting app notification sounds has changed in One UI 6/Android 14. Our brilliant Community users shared how to do it on here first (credit to Ziddy and njg28 amongst a few others), but, as it’s a frequently asked question we thought we’d post a guide in the Tips & How-to area too for everyone. *
For your apps, the initial default view in ‘Settings > Apps > [name of app] > Notifications’ in One UI 6 will look something like this:
So how do we change the notification sounds?
Enabling ‘Manage notification categories for each app’
1. Go to 'Settings > Notifications':
2. Then to 'Advanced settings':
3. And toggle on ‘Manage notification categories for each app’:
Once that’s done, that will enable you to customise notification sounds for all apps that have them from now on.
Setting the notification sounds on the app
1. In ‘Settings > Apps > [name of app] > Notifications’ you now have an additional ‘Notification categories’ option:
2. Tap into that ‘Notification categories’, and you get:
What's there will vary by app, but I'll use WhatsApp as an example.
3. Tap into the category you want to change (I’ll pick ‘Group notifications’ as an example, but it’ll be similar for the other category options.) Then tap into ‘Sound’:
It’ll bring up a list of sounds that are available to pick from:

4. Scroll down or up, and tap the sound you want to select it:
And it will now be set as the notification sound for that category for that app:
