Hi all

The calendar on my phone has gone blank - all my dates and info disappeared. It's a Samsung Galaxy A40. It happened after I changed my phone (from another A40).  I transferred everything by SmartSwitch – or thought I had – apart from WhatsApp, which does its own thing. Everything else seems fine, so far.

I had a separate backup of the old phone on my PC so I looked at Restoring the calendar from there – but I can’t find Calendar in the available options.

I have tried: Go Settings – Apps – Calendar – Storage – clear cache, but no joy.

I only had the one calendar.  I now see there are others relating to Samsung, Google, etc so I tried checking those boxes.  I ended up with loads of (irrelevant) public holidays, so I unchecked them again.

I have tried ForceStop, delete data, and Resync - also in vain.

I shall be forever grateful if someone can help me get these data back.

Thanks

Richard

So the screenshots are above.  I clicked on Apps in the first one, to arrive at the second.  I would expect to see Calendar in this list, but it is not - even when I scroll through the whole list.  Am I looking in the wrong place?

Scroll down. The list contains 68 apps in alphabetical order. BTW please remove your personal numbers. This is a public forum.

I agree, it looks that way.  Yet the current settings on my phone say that I am, and I have not changed them.  In any case, I did a full backup via SmartSwitch to my PC, so I don't understand why it is not showing there.

BTW, I really appreciate the time you are giving me on this. Hopefully we can all learn something.

No it is not the full list.

I thought I had removed my number, but missed those. Fortunately that is not my number.  I think it must be using an old number even though it is connecting to my current handset.

It's the number associated with that particular backup file. You need to scroll down that list and determine if 'Calander' is there. If not, then it hasn't been backed up.

Yes I did scroll through the list - carefully because the alphabetical order was not followed consistently.  It is not there.  It looks as though the data is lost. I'm not going to waste any more time on this - I'll have to use it on retrieving the data elsewhere.

So - the question now becomes "why?"  Why did SmartSwitch fail to do the 'complete' backup that it said it was doing?  I am not expecxting an answer, but would hope that Samsung take notice, and attend to the issue.

Again thanks for your help.

It's difficult to know because you're unable to confirm which account you were using with the Calendar. If it was Google, then I believe it only syncs the last 12 months of data.

Go to Google calendar via the website and check what events are there.

The other possibility is that Smartswitch doesn't back up some Samsung calender data by design.
Did you initiate the Smartswitch xfer phone to phone or PC to phone. The best way is to create a backup to the PC and use that to xfer to new phone.
