I have been using the lock screen pattern for a little over a year now and I always remembered it so it was no biggie. Today, literally out of nowhere, my phone asks me to enter a password. I have no idea why it asked me this, so I tried entering a variety of passwords. All it does is lock the phone for 30 seconds before I can try entering another password once I've had too many tries.
I have no idea what password it wants from me, I only have so many and I tried all of them. It says: "Use password after restart (before I restarted it said Use password to unlock screen), Your password contains at least 4 characters, including at least 1 letter." What password?! See, that's why I hate installing updates, this is just bull*****. I also tried to unlock my phone using Find My Phone and it does not work as it is not connected to the network (I tried restarting it before and I guess that screwed me now). I honestly don't even know if a factory reset would work at this stage, since it does not show any notifications either (apart from: Phone restarted, Unlock your phone to get app notifications).
Did anyone run into the same problem as I did and find a solution? I honestly don't want to try a factory reset (and I don't really think it's gonna work anyway since it's not showing any incoming notifications, either and I can't let my phone ring using Find My Phone).
This seems to be a major issue as I use my phone for work and can't log into the various accounts now as it is a two step verification...

Omg! Yessss. I can't remember my password and I've tried all the ones I would normally use. I can only get in with my finger print and sometimes isn't recognizing my finger print either.... which literally locked me out for hoursssss because I had attemped multiple times. This is p*****g me off! I can't unlock it through the smart things app either cause apparently you would have had to have set it up prior to LOCK OFF. JESUSSSSS! Paying for a phone I can't even get into now when I need it!

I got the same problem last night - it just locked on me.
Anyone or SAMSUNG is listening to this - please help! What should i/we do??
I don't want to try a factory reset as there is so much on the phone that takes days to set up and data that i use everyday.

I just bought a new S23+ a few days ago for my wife. After spending hours in transferring the data to the new phone and setting up existing accounts (time consuming). Password is asked for setting up facial recognition. I have never set up any password before. Of course, all attempt failed and the phone was locked for minutes.
Called the service center today, the girl could not help but implied that we did set up password, which is not true.
We have been using samsung smartphones for many years, this annoying experience making us thinking about switching to other brands. My wife had spent many hours trying to valid existing accounts of different apps and don't want to go to the service centre to Clean the phone.
This happens a few hours after I start to set up the new phones. Almost sure it the Samsung' problems.
A very very disappointed and frustrated Samsung long term users.

Probably they do but do not care. However, reporting the problems could one day force them to do something about it. My brand new s23 Ultra locked me out hours after I bought it. The device keeps asking me for a password I never had a chance to set up. I did not have the chance to connect it with my computer or other devices either. I do not want to loose the data transferred from the old s20 as they are extremely important. I paid for the phone the full price (0ver £ 1200.00) and request them I would give them back the phone and ask them no refund if they give me back all the data in the phone. Do not seem to care about the data in the device and tell you to carry out factory reset. Samsung are not bother at all. They seem to enjoy the misery of their customers!!!

I feel the disappointment and frustration you experienced when your Samsung (S23 Ultra} screen locked you out. I bought S23 Ultra on 10/10/2023 afternoon and took it home. The next morning I was unable to use the device but it kept asking me for a password I never set up. When I went to the Samsung store, where I bought it, to see if they could help. I explained to them that I have extremely important documents and cannot afford factory resetting. Then called Samsung (UK) support three times they but were very unhelpful and at one time they gave me misleading information which meant wasting my time and money. I suggested to one of the Samsung support that they can take the phone and the money but give me back my data. I emphasized the data are much more important to me than the phone. I regret, trading my s10. If I had not done so, I would have my data in my old phone. Samsung created S23 Ultra ad they know how to deal with data recovery but they chose to ignore to help. In fact, one of the Samsung supporters implied it is possible but for some reason they could not unlock the device.
On the screen of My S23 Ultra says:
" For your safety. enter your password learn more...
your password contains al least 4 characters, including at least 1 letter"
When trying to enter a password, the screen displays: too many entry errors try again in 24 hours!

It is their problem. I have had the same problem. For nearly three months I have not been able to use my S23 Ultra! It feels like money thrown into the drain. My data are extremely important and cannot afford to carry out factory setting. After trading my S20, I had to buy a used S20+ until the S23 Ultra screen lock is sorted. Samsung created S23 and they have the technological knowhow to help their clients!

Same experience! Did nothing to change security settings yet encountered this:
"Your password contains at least 4 characters, including at least 1 letter"
samsung failed to address this for years now. will definitely sing apple song from now on.
