I have say 12 albums in my Gallery but when I go to several apps including the Wearable app and Facebook and I try to select a photo it only sees 3 of my albums. It's the same when I go into sync that it only sees the same 3 albums. Please can anyone help?

This works. To shorten it for everyone: When you create new album in Samsung Gallery, it creates new folders in "DCIM" Folder. Whereas to be detected by 3rd party apps, the folder should be in "Pictures" folder instead of "DCIM".

Hence the solution is to open "My Files" app, search for your album in "DCIM" folder and move it to "Pictures" folder.

This has been difficult to figure out but I think I understand it. Using My Files/Internal Storage, under DCIM, I have created several sub albums and there are some individual photos that are not in a sub album. In Samsung Gallery I see, under DCIM, the individual photos. Separately, I see the sub albums that have a photo or video in them. If an album is empty it doesn't appear. I have a sub album that has pictures and sub albums in it (sub-sub albums). The pictures appear under the sub album name and sub-sub albums also appear separately in the Gallery. I created a Group album that has 2 of the sub-sub albums in it. There are other albums, like screen shots that must be system generated and that album appears in Gallery

Using My Files/Internal Storage, under Pictures there are some photos and a sub album named Messages. I didn't create this Messages album. The pictures are under Pictures and the Messages album appears in Gallery. It seems to have pictures that appear in Google Messages.

In Gallery there are also 2 albums for WhatsApp; pictures and videos. I don't know where they are stored but the system pulls those into Gallery from somewhere.

So I think you can us My Files to create albums and sub albums under either DCIM or Pictures but you can't drill down through the structure. Any album, sub album, or sub-sub album will appear as an album. Individual pictures added to the album will appear inside that album but the sub album will not, it will be separate.

This works perfectly, thank you so much! 💙

It's absolutely ridiculous that I have to backup to Google Photos to be able to browse my local pictures from apps, but at least my phone is usable again.

I also learned (by accident) a couple of other things. When looking at the pictures you can use thumb and forefinger to zoom out or in, shrinking or expanding the number of pictures shown. When viewing an album you can swipe right on the images and the left column turns into a list of all your albums so you can change from one to another without leaving the screen. Swipe left to return to the single album view.

You can change the album cover image by opening the album, clicking the 3 dot menu on the right, album settings, Change Cover Image, select a different image, click Apply

A year and a half after and it is still happening. Is there an option where I dont have to back up to Google drive? I have my own backup system and it's not with Google. Some of us don't like having to use such a terrible user interface. Why are they forcing this on us? Is this even legal?

I just go into Settings, Accounts and backup, Back up data and then uncheck the boxes. I do my own manual backups to my laptop using a USB-C cable.

I have found a solution that finally fixed it for me! I created a new folder named "Pictures 2" (name shouldn't matter) in the android folder of the internal storage (there should also be albums with the name of obb, media and data in there) I then moved all of my albums from the DCIM and Pictures folder to Pictures to and upon clicking show more in the media picker I was finally able to view my albums again! Hope this helps cus I just tried this on a whim and it worked surprisingly enough.
