Chat Messages setting keeps turning off for just one contact

My Samsung s21 Ultra keeps turning off the chat setting/read receipt but its only for one certain contact. Ive tried tuning the setting on and off, resetting my phone but nothing seems to help, anyone else have this issue?

When you cleared the storage of the app did it delete all your messages? I want to try it and see it it works. It's only turning off chat features for one person. I have a galaxy s23 5g. I want to clear the app storage but I don't want my messages to be deleted. I was wondering if it deleted all your messages when you cleared app storage.

I've tried this a number of times and it keeps turning off for me. I even cleared data instead of cache.

No it's not. My boyfriend and I tried to fix it last night. My boyfriend's chat settings are one and so are mine, but it still send through as a normal text message.

I tried the clear data, I backed up my messages before I did it. Everything will still there after I clear the data. It still didn't fix the problem.

This is happening with me also but only with my spouses messages. Randomly resolves at times, been going on for a couple months. After reading all the comments it seems to happen to a lot of couples, which is kind of suspicious to me 🤔 hoping for a fix or answer soon!

. This sounds like gou have accidentally chamged your depault twxt program to Google Messages.

For what its worth I gave up with Samsung messages and switched back to Google Messages.. as it gets more frequent updates... and bug fixing etc.

1. I've been using Samsung messages since I had my S20 FE 4 or 5 years ago. I have an S23 now. I don't like google messages and would know if I was using google messages. I have google messages disabled.
