Messages show numbers not contacts

I'm abroad and not roaming so why do my contacts messages show as numbers?

Contacts are fine but messages show as numbers but not all,some are actually showing contacts.

Sync. Errors.
Either check your accounts are syncing under settings>accounts.

Or maybe once you hit WiFi or Internet it will sort itself out.

Sync only applies to emails I believe?
But that didn't work and I've been using wifi here abroad for 10 days.

It depends on which h email your contacts are saved in

Like mine are saved in Google
