I have had the dryer for 18mths with no problem. A week ago I turned it on and started it, there was a humming sound but no rotation of the drum. No warning signs on display and no child lock on. any ideas?

Do help from Samsung ref the problem they did however book an Engineer to visit in the new year. The lady arranging the appointment from the 3rd party repair people said that it was the motor had burnt out. Funny there was no burning smell or warning lights.

So to answer your question, No answer, not sorted.

Were you given a specific date for the engineer's visit?

No parts in stock so 5 Jan. Of course there are no parts in stock, no body holds them these days and they have to order for every job unless they have one from a previous job. The house is like a Chinese laundry at the moment.

usually when they say "the motor has burnt out" there is no fire or smoke. HOWEVER, having recently been on the receiving end of a tumble dryer catching fire, DO NOT TAKE CHANCES. Remove it from your property. Put it outside . Deactivate the door by either removing the door or forcing the lock to break and placing it front end against a wall. This is essential to stop young children being locked inside. ask your local fire brigade to check it out. Use their LOCAL number NOT 999 or 911. Inform the company of what you are doing. Inform your house insurance company of the former actions. Obviously DO NOT attempt to use it again. The NEW YEAR appointment is NOT acceptable. Call them back and tell them you are calling trading standards and demand an immediate reaction .

Same thing happened to our dryer.  The engineer came out and said it is a "common problem".

Seems to be a design fault they are not letting us know.
