Add fabric softener manually to auto dose machine

We have just purchased WW10T684DLN/S1 washer, we want to add powdered detergent manually which we have left over from previous machine, how do we add fabric softener manually?

do we turn auto dispense off?

can we use liquid gel?

what is the best liquid detergent to use?

any sensors for that would not be in the drawer , they would be in the drawer housing fixed to the machine I think. You can safely take the whole drawer out and clean it thoroughly if you like.... even put it in the dishwasher I think, you would not be able to do that if it had sensors in it
