I have an A32 with the same problem. It works for a while then just stops working. I took it to a repair shop, which can't find anything wrong with the phone. I took it to the network provider, who has now given me a new SIM for the second time. It took only a couple of hours for it to stop working again.
The first indication that it's not working is that I get a text to say that I missed a call (which didn't come through). I can get it started again by restarting the phone. Texts and the Internet still operate.
Today, I noticed that HD was shown next to the word "Calling" when it didn't work, so I thought that turning off the HD might just do something. Despite searching for and following instructions on how to do it, my phone is different to what is described/shown, so I can't work out how to do it.
This has been happening for months and I'm really at a loss of what to do next. My concern is also that, if I buy a new phone, I might find that it still happens because nobody has been able to rule out the phone or the network.
Anybody have any ideas, please?

@David_McF1953: Are you based in the UK or Ireland? Is the issue affecting all contacts, or just certain ones? Also, is it persistent in all locations? If you're seeing 'HD' when making a call, then this simply indicates that enhanced audio is being utilised (Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > 4G Calling) so this shouldn't affect your ability to make/receive calls.
To troubleshoot the issue, please try restarting your phone in Safe mode, as this will disable all third party apps and help to determine if the problem is stemming from an external source.
To enter Safe mode, press and hold the Power button until the 'Power off' prompt appears on the screen then release > Touch and hold Power off until the 'Safe mode' prompt appears then release > To confirm, tap Safe mode.
With Safe mode active, monitor the performance of the device for a few hours, based on the frequency that you encounter the issue. If you find that you're able to make/receive calls as normal, then please restart your Galaxy A32 as you would normally and uninstall any apps that you have added to the device since you first encountered the issue. It won't be possible to determine exactly which app is at fault, therefore I recommend approaching this via a process of elimination.

Thanks for your response AndrewL. I'm in Australia. One of the issues with fixing the problem is that it could take 2 hours, 2 days or 2 weeks before it happens again, so going into Safe mode maybe isn't feasible. I will take on board your suggestion, though, that removing apps might help. I'll take a brutal approach and basically start from scratch.
I also thought about swapping SIMs with my wife. Do you think that might narrow it down to the phone, if it doesn't happen with her SIM? She is on the same network but she doesn't have the problem.
