I have YT premium, videos keep playing even when the phone screen is off. But recently as soon as I shut the phone screen off, within 30 seconds the signal to the video is lost and it stops playing. It only starts again after I switch the phone screen on and wait 5 seconds for the app to load. It never used to do this? Can anyone help. I use my phone to play videos when I sleep at night. Thanks

Hey there!

I'd suggest to do these things:

1.  Check if YouTube is up to date, also if you have downloaded latest software update.

2. Check your Premium subscription status, maybe it has changed or something.

3. Try disabling and enabling Background Play in YT settings

4. Try disabling Power Saving mode.

5. Check if you haven't disabled YT notifications.

6. Restart your phone

7. Try signing out and signing in.

If nothing helped contact YT costumer support, maybe problem is in app not phone.

Hope I helped.

Thanks for the replies - I think your right , it's power saving. But how do I allow YT to keep using power when screens off? I don't have the specific power saving feature on?

You're saying you still have a problem even when this setting is off?

Ok I'm not sure then. Try going to settings in  YouTube app, scroll down to find About  section, press it and then press help, after that search Background play isn't working and check for possible solutions there.

And while you're problem isn't fixed I'd suggest playing YT videos trough Samsung Internet browser, because atleast for me it let's me listen to videos even without Premium.

Think I have solved it. Go to battery in the settings of the phone. Click on "Battry Usage Limit" add YouTube or any other application on your phone to "Never Auto Sleep Apps" list.

This is a solution. However, now the problem becomes draining the battery. Any ideas there?
