It might be helpful to know the make and model of your old phone. If your old phone is a Samsung, there shouldn't be any problems.
To make things go smoothly, have your Samsung account and Google account log in / password at hand.
If you use Whatsapp, consider backing that up first before transferring - there's always issues with that app in transferring to a new phone.
I always take screenshots of my various home pages to help me get things as they were.
Also, if you use links from a browser that you saved to your Home page (as a link), be sure to remember what the link was as they typically don't get carried over. (That might have changed but that's why I take screenshots.)

One more post, I sold my previous phone to an old friend who isn't extremely technical. I just now found the list I sent to him ...
Have inlog information for Google Account, Samsung Account, and MS
Backup WhatsApp (3 dots, Settings, Chats, backup)
Be sure Google Backup is current - go into Settings / Accounts and Backups
Install Samsung Smart Switch if it's not installed
Move SIM to new phone
Start backup, make sure both phones are well charged and that there's a good WiFi connection

@ksam11: I just wanted to add that you will be offered the choice to transfer your data and settings via Smart Switch, including your Google and Samsung accounts, at the set up stage, and it's pretty seamless (although 3rd party apps will need to be re-installed on the S24). This can be done by connecting the 2 phones via USB cable, or via Wi-Fi, and will ensure that your S24 is set up just the way you like it, out of the gates.

I don't think that's odd, @GoanGeek. In a way, this gives you more of a 'new phone' experience, starting your journey anew There's something about setting it up again that would be pretty satisfying, as it gives you more of a reason to interact with it out of the box.
