Trouble transferring Whatsapp chats from iPhone to S24 Ultra!

I hope someone can help me, it´s been 4 days trying to make this work.

I own an iPhone 11 Pro and have just migrated to an S24 Ultra 1TB.

I did it all correctly according to Samsung instructions about transferring Whatsapp chat data from my iPhone to S24Ultra, including doing the fabric restore and installing latest version of Smart Switch, Whatsapp, using cable, same WIFI network, turning off iMessage an Facetime, etc).

Well, I realized that after finishing the process, most whatsapp chats are not being displayed - even though I can find them when I search for a specific contact -. Why´s that? Can´t I have them all displayed as before, without having to send a message to the chat contact? Only group chats are being displayed.

The other problem is that I´m an admin in some whatsapp groups, but after transferring chats from iPhone, when I open these whatsapp groups in S24Ultra, it simply shows as I just joined that group, losing all the group history and past messages, media, etc.

My next attempt now is to backup my Whatsapp chat (55GB) in iPhone through iCloud (200GB storage), delete whatsapp from iPhone, reinstall it using this backup and only after that doing the Whatsapp Smart Switch Transfer,  and restore the chats in S24.

But each attempt take hours, so anyone could me help solve this?

I am also having same issue - not able to transfer WhatsApp chat history from iPhone 14 pro to Galaxy S24 ultra. I tried smart switch, "transfer to android, iCarefone, nothing worked. I tried with factory  reset also but did not work. Anyone managed to transfer with chat history, pls share your experience Please....

Well, you'll have to restore your Android to factory settings and then you'll configure it choosing the option restore from iPhone through Smart Switch.

Select the whatsapp app on the list of apps to be transferred. When this is all done, configure whatsapp and use its option "Move chats to Android" only later when all of the tranfer is done.

There were some group chats I couldn't recover. Most chats won't be visible on chat list, and you'll have to send a message to your contact to make the chat visible again. But all the info will be there.

But the most important thing: on your iPhone, before all this, make a whatsapp chats back up. You'll probably have to delete big size videos to make room for whatsapp backup. Do it as much as possible, you'll need 2 to 3 times free space on your phone in relation to whatsapp is using. And wait for the backup process end completely. It took me 3 days.

Dear Willkill,

Thanks for advise. I have approx 40 GB data in WhatsApp. I have enough space in the new android phone (1 TB) so space is not an issue.

So, as per above advise, should I follow like this (with cable):

1. S24 ultra- bring it to factory reset

2. Use smart switch and select import only whastapp (deselect other apps)

3. When done, select in iPhone as "Move chats to Android 

4. Wait for 2-3 days to transfer all data

I am curious to know that when to transfer all other data (like contacts phots etc). Since contacts are not transferred, some whastapp contacts are only showing numbers (not names).

Any other tip will be appreciated.

I am talking about storage on your iPhone, when you make a whatsapp backup on your iPhone, before transferring.

If your only problem is about contact names on your Android, you can also use Smart Switch to transfer contacts to your Android device after finishing whatsapp transfer process (and also apps, etc).

On Android contact config (check photo), make sure your contacts are located on your phone (not SIM card or Google only) and if they're not in the trash folder.

Whatsapp should recognize contact names from your Android device.

Did you find any solution ? I am having same problem from last 3 days. Long time consuming 3 attempts to transfer my whatsapp chat history from Iphone 13 to Galaxy S24 Ultra, each time same results, only group names appears on whatsapp but no chat history. I did everything exactly as explained on whatsapp and Samsung official websites. Please let me know

I have a list for myself to perform when transferring everything to a new phone.  

For WhatsApp I have - Backup WhatsApp  ... 3 dots, Settings, Chats, backup.  

I've had problems in the past, making sure everything within WhatsApp is backed up, seems to solve my previous issues.

Finally I managed to transfer all whatsapp chats from Iphone to Galaxy Ultra. Keep your new phone to factory reset and install smart switch on Iphone too. Connect USB cable with both phones and start the process. Important is keep you smart switch app open on Iphone. When QR code appeared on new phone then instead of scanning it I opened whatsapp on Iphone, went to chats and export chats to Android, process will start and open smart switch again on Iphone. You can see data is being transferring. After finish when it says disconnect cable do the same and follow instructions on new Galaxy phone. Finally when you open whatsapp on new phone and its activated with code then you may see only group names you are in but no personal messages from your contact. Dont worry...You just open your contact you want to send message there then you will see all the previous messages with that contact are there. So as you keep on sending or receiving new messages to all contacts you will see all chats are there, just not showing until you dont send or receive message from that contact. Hope this will help everyone having that problem.

Sorry for late reply. I have not been able to transfer the Whastapp data (iPhone to S24 ultra) so far. I tried using a third party app and all chat got transferred expect photos / vides, so I am back to my iPhone 14 pro. I need all chat history with photos / videos. The Samsung customer says that  both platform operating systems are different so they can not assist.

Can you pls check and confirm if all Whastapp data (including photos and videos) got transferred?

Did you transfer all phone data or only whastapp? I tried both options, all data and only WA data few weeks back but was not successful. I tried exactly as per Samsung guidelines. See below:
