First impressions with a S24 Ultra Titanium Blue:

After receiving the phone, I put it to charge. I thought for a moment that there was a problem with charging and the USB port because there was no sign on the screen that it was charging. Stupidly, I assume that the film protecting the screen was transparent. After trying different cables and chargers, I realised that the film is black and blocks all light.

I had a mix of excitement and dread, after reading some many posts about screen, audio, WiFi on the 5gHz band, and camera not performing well.

I managed to get my phone up and running. I set it up as new, I did not transfer any settings or app from my S22 Ultra. The only crossover were contacts and messages. The process was absolutely painless. WiFi worked without a single problem when setting the phone.

There were quite a few updates, both on the Galaxy Store and Google Store, including the Galaxy Store. Installed a few needed apps, some more apps to be done later. Copy all my media to a solid-state drive (T7), and from the drive to the phone. The read and write speeds are excellent.

The screen is quite brilliant to my eyes. I love it. It is very responsive. The fingerprint reader is very fast. I thought that the colours on the S22 Ultra and the S24 Ultra were similar. I can see a very small change between vivid and normal modes. I do not dislike either, but I prefer normal. The lack of a very intense vivid mode could be an issue if that it is your preference.

After installing VLC, I played Mary J. Blige, Family Affair. The visuals and audio were fantastic. The speakers were loud and clear. It really sounded good, and the video was excellent. I felt very relieved that both audio and visuals were very pleasing for me.

If you use WhatsApp, Viber or similar communication app. Make sure that you do backup your chats on the cloud before you try to set it on the new phone, so they can be restored. On the WhatsApp case, do the restore when setting the app. If you skip the restoring process, then there is no clear way to restore it. If you did skip the restore by accident, go into Settings -> Apps, stop the app, clear cache, clear data and start the app again to restore the backup.

Transferring my Galaxy Watch 5 Pro did not work. It did work initially and gave me a false sense of security, but after I browsed the watch setting, it decided that it could not transfer it. I tried to do it several times with the same result. I rebooted both the watch and the phone, but to no avail. I have not cleaned the cache partition. I might need to reset the watch.

The camera is acceptable for first release. It can take some OK pictures in low light. It looks decent enough as whole, but not if zoom in. The stock camera performance is very similar to the S22 Ultra at its release time. It lacks details and colours look messy on the photo mode. On portrait mode, either the selfie or the main cameras can have a decent amount of detail. I did not get any buzzing noise or rattle with the camera or near the camera.

I did not set any saving battery feature. Resolution QHD+, I did not toggle off any feature that makes the Ultra an Ultra. After more than 12 hours and intense use, it still has 50% of the battery. I do not think that is bad at all, considering all the setting up. I think that the phone overall performance is very decent.

I ordered a case from Amazon yesterday to be delivered today, and the phone went into it faster that that it came out the box. It might have tough glass, but I did not want to test it. I am very pleased with the phone so far.

I am well aware that my experience is not a universal one. I am not trying to prove or disprove anything, just sharing.

Hi @Reylob

I must admit i did smile 😃 when you panicked a little due to the in-transit shield On the display and not then seeing the charging indicator.

When I'm setting up my new phone I prefer to use my Samsung Back up, and then only use Samsung Smartswitch to move the photo gallery over. I appreciate we all have our own ways. 😉

My Watch⁴ Classic needed to be reset to be moved over onto my phone. I then used the back up my watch made.

I totally agree with you about turning off features to save possibly a little bit of battery.

I want the phone to provide me with the best experience in the way of functions and features it can.

This is why I turn off the battery indicator on the phone's status bar so I'm not drawn to looking at it.

I do disable alot of the Google apps apart from the assistant and maps.

Some other apps i don't need I uninstall or disable or force stop.

I have always used Natural Setting on my phone's but I do understand and appreciate that some want the vivid mode to be more vibrant.

My phone does not have the grey grain effect some have reported either.

Personally im happy with the display.

My phone's are always put in cases as these glass backed phone's are very slippery sometimes.

Mine is in a Spigen Rugged Armor Case.

It also has a Spigen EZ Fit Tempered Glass Screen Protector because even though I appreciate the Glass this tile js an armour glass screen if it developed a micro abrasions  / scratch I'd never unsee it !

Enjoy 😎

Fantastic review @Reylob.

Your experience of the S24 Ultra is similar to mine so far.

I'm looking forward to see the first couple of updates to see what gets improved but overall? I'm pretty happy with the S24 Ultra (I came from the S23 Ultra which was also brilliant).

Hi @BandOfBrothers

You were not the only one smiling. I was laughing at myself for being such a fool. There were a couple of cases of people complaining about USB problems and that came to my mind immediately. My idea was to use a low wattage charger and when it did not work, went troubleshooting on all possible causes, but the most obvious one.

Like you, I also disable/remove a few apps that I will never use. I could not see the grain effect, green line or any issue with the display, but I always use the natural mode as well.

Battery wise, I still have 40% and it was used intensively. I think the battery is quite acceptable even with the learning phase.

Thank you for your wishes, do enjoy yours.

Hi@Piper123

Thank you for comments, I am very happy that you are sharing a similar experience to mine.

I agree with you on the updates. I assume that the first update will be a big one. Most 'issues' depend on usage. It will be very hard for me to find a problem with Instagram, never used it. Discounting the small % of manufacturing fault, I think that most issues are software fixable issues.

I came from the S22 Ultra, which is not a bad phone. They look very similar screen wise when next to each other in normal mode. The flat screen is a treat.

The only funny thing I found, was that it does not feel as big as it is. It has almost the same dimensions of the S22 Ultra and the S23 Ultra, but did not feel big.

I am very happy with it.

Can I ask what the build number on your phone is? It seems to be a certain build number that has issues.

Same as mine so it can't be a build issue. I only said that because I saw a YouTube episode about it saying this screen issue affected that build number. Thanks.
