All was going well with the transferring of data from my old phone to my new one because it was all backed up with Google.

I didn't back up WhatsApp. New phone started to connect, it prompted me to put my phone number in which I did and then WhatsApp on my old phone logged out. I panicked incase I lost contacts. WhatsApp on old phone asked for email which I couldn't remember so I put my main one in which I know it's not. WhatsApp on new phone said could connect try later. Managed to get back into it on my old phone, but still can't get it on New phone.

Any ideas on what I need yo do?

Thank you

Hi. Whatsapp changed their policy so now you have to backup to Google.

So do back up to Google and then try again

Hi Rajsahab

Thank you. I've tried that that's not working either. On my new phone I can't get passed initialising. Says unable to connect please try later.

As I said in my op I was signed out WhatsApp on my old phone during the set up on my new phone, but I signed staring back in which then stopped it on my new phone.

I'm thinking I should uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp on my new phone and try again. Do you think that would solve it?

I've made a list of tips for myself for transferring data to a new phone since I buy a new phone every year.

For WhatsApp I've written - Backup WhatsApp (3 dots, Settings, Chats, backup).
Make sure Google Backup is current.  What email address does Google Backup want to see?

To be honest, WhatsApp seems to always cause problems with everyone.

I responded before I saw your last post.

How did you resolve this issue, if you don't mind me asking.

No worries.

After I backed up all data on WhatsApp, I then backed up to Google.

I first tried deleting the Facebook app but keeping the saved data (it gave the option to delete but save data or delete everything).

Then installed the app but that didn't work. When I opened the app I was straight on the page I was stuck on.

So I deleted the app including the saved data. Reinstalled the app and when I opened it it prompted me to fill in my details. When WhatsApp signed out on my old phone I left it alone this time! Lol.

I had expected to have lost contacts and messages but I hadn't, so that's worth noting. The saved data I deleted must have just been the app and the information I'd put in.

Thanks Dave.

I'm terrible at remembering emails, passwords etc. I always have the intention to make notes but...lol.

I think your list of tips is good, I might pinch it!

Good to know I'm not the only one to have problems with WhatsApp.
