Samsung S24+ Battery Drain on Standby

I replaced my Galaxy S20+ with the S24+ about 3 weeks ago and noticed that the battery consumption is pretty bad when the phone is on standby. I let the phone sit idle all day, while heavily using my iPhone 11 Pro. Comparatively, the the iPhone has used about 30% while the Samsung about 20% just sitting there for the most part (I did have to take 2 short calls and reply a few texts). It is draining at a minimum of 3.5 - 4% per hour on standby! My S20+ would lose maybe 1 - 2% per hour even after 4 years of heavy use. I could leave my S20+ off of the charger all night and trust that it would still have most of the charge in the morning. This one lost about 20% overnight. Should I return this phone?

@Jasono. You are not alone. I bought my on the day of launching and received it on the 25th of January. The battery was good, though. I had issues with the drain on 5G and google Maps, but overall, it was amazing. On a typical day on WIFI, I was getting 1% drain for every 10 minutes watch time on youtube, which perhaps is the app I used 80-90% of the time. Then came the Feb update AXB5, and then it changed from 10 to 5 minutes for every 1% drain. I wrote about my experience and had comments advising me to clear the cache partition after the update. I did, but nothing changed. Subsequently, I received the March update AXBG, and this time, I cleared the cache partition immediately after updating, yet I can confirm I have just about 4-5 minutes for every 1% drop and the phone strangely feels warm on using which wasn't the case pre the February update. I must also say I have kept my phone charged between 20 and 80% after my first 100% charging on day 1 to max out longevity.

I have my S24 since end of January and the battery life was great, and had no issues.
But ever since this Tuesday/Wednesday (5th/6th March) I have experienced HEAVY battery drain and even 2 nights where charging stopped due to "App using too much CPU phone needs restart" (or something along those lines).

Today I investigated and found that my CPU usage is CONSTANTLY 65-90% while idle. Tried force closing all 3rd party apps, and nothing helped.

In the end I found a hint that it might be Work profile, and YES, disabling work profile lowered idle CPU to 10-15% and I'm guessing issue will be resolved for now, EXCEPT for the fact that I now can't use my phone for Work apps...

Thanks for this post!! I thought maybe it was caused by a Samsung update, but also in the back of my mind I almost thought maybe my 'Work Profile', could cause issues but I didn't really know how to check? I went to developer settings added widget for GPU, and noticed the same issue. CPU usage was like 60%-70% while phone sitting idle. So I went to work profile in settings and was able to disable it for now. Instantly this fixed my battery issue and phone is getting less warm now. I'm currently vacation, but maybe when I get back to office will check with IT department or other coworkers to see if anyone has had the same issue. Starting from March 5th-6th. Such a mysterious issue !!

Thanks for this post!! Actually another Samsung forum member helped me! Not sure if you also have a work profile set up on yours?? Such a mysterious issue !!

The update affected the Work Profile, so yes it is a pure Samsung Driven update issue. They need to fix this ASAP as with every 2nd job "requiring" a Work Profile this is unacceptable. Very disappointed with the S24+ so far, loved it until March 5th, but if they cannot fix it within the next 2 weeks I will do the switch to Iphone for now.

Has anyone reported this issue directly to Samsung?  Hopefully they will fix soon, however I wonder if they are even aware or if anyone has complained to them directly? Before March 5, 2023 my S24+ was also working very well then after around this date I started having problems relating to the 'Work Profile' and my phone using the battery too quickly.  With my job, I actually only need to use the work profile to login at the start of the day, then I can 'disable' it for the rest of the day.  Though sometimes if I forget to disable it, then my battery is reduced and later in the day, my phone sometimes gets very warm. One other separate problem that started a little bit after this date, my Google Messages which were working perfectly became problematic.  Sometimes messages were being delayed or not coming through.  Eventually I had to turn off the RCS chat feature in Google Messages which I was not happy about.

Actually it seems like the battery issue on S24+ was miraculously resolved? I don't know how, but my S24+ battery is back to normal and lasts for a long time! It's been fixed for awhile now, I wonder if this is resolved for everyone? Did Samsung send an update?

I bought the S24+ in April, 2024.  From last week, I found the S24+ battery has been draining quickly by 2 percent on standby after I made all APPs be in deep sleep.

I strongly suggest Samsung engineers make a comprehensive analysis on this issue. I hope this issue can be solved in the next software update.

In regular use, I am fine with the battery life. Only thing that concerns me is that the battery drew more than 10% after being idle for over 5-6 hours. I feel like it shouldn't use that much and something is draining the battery in the background or something prevents it from entering deep sleeping mode.
