Samsung’s Software Update Delays Are No Longer Acceptable

Samsung has always positioned itself as the leader in Android updates, promising faster, longer-lasting software support than its competitors. Yet, as of late February 2025, One UI 7 is still in beta testing, while other brands have already completed their Android 15 rollouts.

Facts That Samsung Cannot Ignore:

1️⃣ Google released stable Android 15 for Pixel devices in October 2024.
2️⃣ OnePlus completed its Android 15 rollout last month, with even its oldest eligible device, the OnePlus 10 Pro, received the update.
3️⃣ Xiaomi, Vivo, and OPPO pushed stable Android 15 updates to their flagships by January 2025.
4️⃣ Samsung is the only major manufacturer still in the beta phase as of February 2025.
5️⃣ Even Google has started early testing for Android 16, yet Samsung has not even finalized One UI 7.

How can the largest Android manufacturer in the world be so far behind the competition?

Samsung is Prioritizing New Phones Over Existing Users

Samsung launched the Galaxy S25 series with One UI 7 in January 2025, yet:

  • Galaxy S24 users are still waiting for a stable update.
  • Older flagship devices (S23, S22, Z Fold/Flip 5) have no confirmed timeline.
  • No official statement from Samsung explaining the delay.

Instead of delivering One UI 7 to existing users, Samsung has shifted focus to optimizing it for the S25 Ultra. Beta testers have confirmed that more bugs are being fixed for the S25 than for older models.

Samsung needs to communicate openly instead of keeping users in the dark.

One UI 7 Beta – Where Are the Features?

Beta 4 of One UI 7 still lacks core Android 15 features, making the update feel incomplete.

🔴 What’s missing?

  • No Edge Panels – One UI’s signature multitasking tool has been removed without explanation.
  • No Full-Sized Lock Screen Widgets – Available in stock Android 15, but Samsung has not included them.
  • No Corner Swipe for Google Assistant – This was removed despite being a basic Android feature.
  • Now Brief is missing – Samsung's AI widget is only available on specific models, leaving older devices behind.

🔴 What’s still broken?

  • UI glitches in the Quick Panel persist across multiple beta versions.
  • Fingerprint sensor responsiveness issues remain unsolved.
  • Animations for app transitions are still inconsistent.

Samsung is taking longer than ever to finalize an update that is not even feature-complete.

Other Brands Are Outpacing Samsung

Let’s compare:

Brand Update Speed Feature Completeness Communication

Google Pixel Android 15 stable since Oct 2024 All features included Clear roadmap
OnePlus Finished Android 15 rollout (Jan 2025, OnePlus 10 Pro last in Italy) Stock Android 15 features available Transparent updates
Samsung Still in beta (Feb 2025) Features missing/removed No official timeline

Samsung cannot claim to be a leader in software updates while lagging months behind smaller brands.

Samsung Needs to Fix This NOW

Samsung must immediately address the following issues:

Provide a clear and official One UI 7 release timeline.
Deliver a feature-complete Android 15 update without unnecessary removals.
Stop prioritizing new devices over existing flagship users.
Improve communication and transparency regarding delays.

At this point, Samsung users deserve answers. If competitors can roll out Android 15 on time, why is Samsung, the biggest Android manufacturer, still struggling?

I'm gonna get the update for my S21 Ultra, so I'm not worried. In the meantime, I've received my monthly updates on all my Samsung devices on a regular basis, so I'm definitely getting what I've paid for.

There were people reporting issues on the UI 7 beta on the S24U well after the S25U release. What would you expect? For them to release it early and unfinished.

Think logically—why would holding a product hostage make sense? Yes, make customers upset and lose interest in your brand to sell more? No.

It's an update; politely, there are more important things. If you don't like what's being offered and have your conspiracies, you are free to go elsewhere.

You've replied to pretty much every comment here with your opinion, in a very angry way—it's not that big of a deal; you'll survive. Your money is your money and youre not forced to buy anything.

Unfortunately they are all the same now, trouble is they release so many phones each year with promises of years of updates then struggle to fulfil their promises, even high end expensive phones with 6 years of update, don't really get them
Especially the security updates they should have, top samsung phones after 18 months of release the updates start slipping after 2 - 2 1/2 years they are getting quarterly updates then after 3 years bi annual updates by year four they are so behind it doesn't matter, also after 2 years the security updates released by Google are not fully implemented by samsung, usually only addressing critical risks not high or medium risks,
When you look at apple full security updates and full ios updates for 7 years on all phones , they have only just stopped supporting iPhone 6
That's 10 years old, Samsung like all manufacturers are constantly moving on to the next great phone and dump 2 year old plus phone really , OK if your selling £200 phones but phones that cost a thousand pounds, not even fully secure after 3 years from release date
Very poor, and sadly getting worse, I've love samsung for years but now, what's the point
Android phones at Apple pro prices that are only good for s year or two, support wise

You might but not 7 years of monthly updates , after 2 years even security updates will be 4 months behind Google patches
By year 4 whatever phone you buy will be unsecure security wise as samsung then and six months after Google will only give critical security patches not high and medium risk ones
