Annoying when you buy a new phone and it is not as good as your older phone.. S24 wifi issues is very disappointing. Apps will not work while connected via wifi anywhere.. got told to turn the 5hz wifi setting off.. am I to tell every home I go to and say that lol.. businesses.. you don't upgrade to downgrade grrrr

I'm running into the same issues on my new Galaxy S24 Ultra. All other devices have rock-solid WiFi connections but on my S24, apps often hang or show time outs.

What stands out to me is that every time I experience hangs or time outs, IPv6 stops working. My device always has an IPv6 address, but going to https://ipv6-test.com (or do a ping/traceroute test), it shows that IPv6 isn't working. Pinging to IPv4-only addresses still works in that case. When I disable and re-enable WiFi, also IPv6 magically works again for a bit. After some time, the connection stops working and I run into the same problems.

I'm able to reproduce this on at least two entirely different networks in different geographical locations and with different ISPs. I've submitted a ticket through Samsung Members with a bunch of screen shots and recordings, curious to see if they can find something...

I've been trying to get my head around what could be the issue with the device's wifi, but in the end it's all guesswork. It must have something to do with ipv4 and ipv6 adresses in dual band routers, as others have mentioned that turning off ipv6 in their router would solve the problem. This is, however, not recommended.

This also wouldn't speak against my previous theory and the (although halfbaked) solution with changing the DNS servers that I posted earlier, since it depends on your DNS if a an adress is sent in ipv4 or ipv6 format. So this worked sometimes, and sometimes it didn't.

What worked for me though in the last month or so without any major issues (save for a wifi hiccup that every device has every once in a while, but this really only happened once) is something called 'band steering' that my dual band router supports.

You basically tell your router that for a specific device that you have to enter manually by MAC adress not to switch between 2.4 ghz and 5ghz wifi as it sees fit, but just stick to one frequency for that device. So I changed the band steering for the S24 Ultra to 5 ghz only (and some older devices to 2.4 ghz) and haven't had any issues since.

For everyone who also wants to try it: after entering the router settings you might have to activate a pro or expert mode to be able to see the band steering setting.

I hope someone does try this to see if it works for them as well.

I think I’ve read about the band steering between many posts too although I didn’t try disabling it because my previous router didn’t allow me to. Will check the current one. Based on some other additional observations over the past few weeks I’ve thinking - the core underlying cause is authentication failure. Not because the password is incorrect but because that isn’t being retained/exchanged between the software layers (TCP/IP) that make it function. It could be the cause for it resorting to bandswitching or their other way around - band switching causing it to reauthenticate although this seems less likely when it does this while I’m standing right next to the router.

Since I originally commented on this thread, I’d submitted 2 error reports to Samsung via the members app, in response to which, I was asked to restart device in safe mode, enable debug modem logs and send them another dump. End result I’ve been told to take it to a service shop to get device physically checked in response to both reports.

What makes me think of authentication failure is 1. The response I got from Samsung support about break in communication with kernel from the logs. They also mentioned a firmware crash. 2. What I see when I switch to WPA3 on the router. When settings are at WPA2, when touching a WiFi network to connect it looks like nothing is happening until eventually an “i” appears next to it which says “connection failed” ( details would be check physical modem-router connections, check passwords). I’ve read multiple folks mention this behavior that when they touch a WiFi network to connect, it doesn’t do anything and just stays there. Now if the router setting is WPA3, and then I touched WiFi network to connect, it actually opens the password page with “incorrect password” in red, password field with  “unchanged” and in a couple of seconds connect right from that page without me re-enter  anything. Once it connects it holds on a couple of seconds and then it would disconnect again so it’s just a rinse and repeat cycle at this point. So essentially with WPA3 it’s actually explicitly showing me why it can’t connect vs with WPA2 setting where it silently fails giving the impression that it isn’t doing anything.

I completely disabled IPv6 in my ISP's modem for a couple days and didn't run into any problems anymore. Re-enabled it a couple hours ago and immediately seeing the issue pop up again. I have an open bug report om Samsung Members already, and they've forwarded it to their tech team to look into it further. Will report back here when I hear something back...

This continues to be a problem.  Only certain apps (eg. Sky news and family, BBC news and family, Strava etc).  Just randomly fail to connect to internet via WiFi .  Disabling and re-enabling WiFi fixes.  Please sort ASAP Samsung! I don't expect this level of performance from a device of this value.

So, I tried your previous advice. As I run two separted networks, bandsteering is not an issue. For now ipv6 works on my S24 Ultra. I hope it stays like this.  Thank you so far.

@Samsung: This ist not acceptable! Fix it!

I have an issue similar to you guys. The speedtest app my s24u is showing a significantly slower download speed than my Macbook Air or even my Galaxy Tab S9. It's about half the speed of every other device. I don't understand what's wrong here. I never noticed this earlier, and it's only started showcasing ridiculous wifi speeds a couple days ago. Have a feeling it's hardware related, since the tab s9 isn't exhibiting this behaviour, and maybe the wifi chip in my phone has degraded from heat from the processor?
Anyone find a solution?
