Dear all
A few days ago, I bought an S24 Ultra.
In general, after transferring the data from my old phone, everything works correctly.
However, what I can’t get to work is the fingerprint recognition.
It works if I don’t use a screen protector, but I’ve tried three different ones, and the results haven’t been good:
First, I used the JETech Full Coverage Screen Protector for Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 5G 6.8 Inches, Tempered Glass with Easy Installation Frame, HD Clear—a similar type of glass to what I’ve used on other phones. Result: It does NOT work, even after changing the sensor resolution.
Then, I tried the Spigen Glas.tR EZ Fit Screen Protector for Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, 2 Units, Easy Installation, High Definition, 9H Hardness. Even though it says it’s specially designed for the S24 Ultra, it ALSO does not work.
It recognizes normal touches without any problem, but NOT fingerprint recognition.
I also tried the KoasVonson Matte Screen Protector for Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, 2 Pieces, Hydrogel Anti-Glare TPU Flexible Film, Fingerprints, Anti-Glare [Not Tempered Glass]. It works somewhat, but I’m concerned that it might not sufficiently protect the screen.
What’s going on with the S24 Ultra’s fingerprint sensor? I thought the technology had been improved, but the result is that it only works without a screen protector.
What screen protector can I use?

Did you try redoing the fingerprints after changing screen protector? I never had any issues with Samsung ones

If you have one ui7 it has broken the fingerprint sensor and screen protector or no screen protector it won't work. We are all waiting for a samsung software fix.

I have the exact same issue, brand new S24 ultra (Aug-25 manufactured). Bought premium Spigen tempered privacy glass cover. The fingerprint (that was lightning fast before using the glass cover) just refuses to work now, only works when I press hard for half a second, I tried everything:
1. removed fingerprints and reapplied
2. Did the diagnostic check, fingerprint shows error, pressed hard only then it works
3. Added 3 fingerprints of just my right thumb (two of left), still misses 6-7 out of 10 times.
4. Added fingerprints with a moist finger, as per a reddit suggest, not working.
5. Disabled touch sensitivity as advised by others online (should be opposite)
My 4 year old S20 FE 5G, the fingerprint is so amazing that it registers the fingerprint faster than the unlock. I press my thumb for a nano sec and take it off, the phone registers it and opens the phone half a second later, which clearly means the fingerprint is superior.
Extremely disappointed with this, using a pattern for now which sucks!

Remove incompatible screen cover

I've already tried three different ones, supposedly recommended for this model—and none of them were cheap. In the end, I'm using it without the fingerprint sensor. This is an issue that shouldn't happen with a high-end phone!

Nothing to do with the phone

I'm absolutely certain the issue is with the phone itself. I've tested multiple screen protectors and explored every possible configuration—nothing works.
Touch sensitivity is fine: it registers key presses and navigation without any trouble. But I haven’t found a single protector where the fingerprint sensor works reliably.
I’m not sure what changes Samsung has made, but honestly, the previous system worked much better.
I’ll be buying a new phone in a few months, and with these issues in mind, it definitely won’t be a Samsung.

Agree, this is a clear S24U screen issue. A simple Google search will reveal how prominent and obvious this issue is. Samsung is extremely lucky that Apple doesn't cut prices of their iPhones as soon as Scamsung do, or else I would have eyes closed gone for the 16pro. My S20FE 5G fingerprint with tempered glass is so fast that the unlock registers faster than the phone unlocking.
