I have said that the camera app need severe improvements. There is a lack of consistency, pictures can be excellent or really awful.
However, hardware wise the phone is very capable. I have been saying that we need to put things in perspective. It is a phone with camera capabilities.
This video makes a great comparison against a mirrorless camera.
S24 Ultra, £1249 - £1549
Mirrorless camera Alpha 7C £1699
Zoom lens SEL70200GM2 £2,479
Camera and lens might be found cheaper

And just to be clear, I have no association with Samsung, Sony or any phone, camera manufacturer. I am not recommending any. I did not make the video nor have any association with the author.

Being a photographer will definitely give an understanding of the technique and limitations of the equipment.
In my opinion, the stock camera should take very decent photos on default mode. It is a big ask, to expect that the majority of users will have good knowledge of photography, but if one wants to take good shots, then it is very helpful to at least trying to understand the basics.
I am not saying that there aren't any issues or that the raw format is perfect or the solution for the casual shooter. It is also true that the phone has been promoted for its camera capabilities. However, the point of the post is to put a bit of perspective of what we can expect. Some people wan to take impossible shots and then complain that the camera is not good.
There is also the possibility that one has a faulty unit.
Camera on phones have improved so much that it is not difficult to see excellent shots taken with a phone. The S24 Ultra has the potential to be one of the best in the market.

Totally agree, expectation vs reality.
Photography is the art of playing with light. There is a reason why we cannot see the stars during the day. No convectional camera will be able to achieve that.
