Hi
Lovely People

For those interested, there is no more 2g option available in One UI 7 and it's another thing getting phased out .

Most of the networks don't use it now, even 3G is coming to a end soon alot of tech devices are becoming obsolete like smart monitors for engergy smart meters etc

When I was on One UI 7 before I reverted back, there was a disable 2G toggle (like on pixel phones) when I put a giffgaff sim in but for some reason it was the only network it appeared on

O2 are switching off their 3G networks later this year.

2G was used for voice only, so I guess they assume that you want that on your phone 😮

That setting is an android thing. 2g is really insecure so android has an option to disable it. Issue is, some networks still use it. So sim providers can show or hide the setting on your phone. Seems giffgaff is the only one who enables the setting

Shame because it's a handy feature

Its still possible to force enable. If you open the dev cell service menu, you can tell your phone to only use certain protocols. Aka, set it to use everything except 2g. It's not user friendly but with android, there's always a way to do something
