I have a brand-new S24 Ultra and cannot get the notification sounds to work for love nor money. I’ve done everything I can think of in apps, notifications etc and have also done a reset, but still nothing.
The apps I mainly use sound alerts for are Outlook, Teams and Messenger. I’d be really grateful for any suggestions - thanks in advance.

This is a Samsung problem. Yes you can go do this and you can go do that and you can get it to work for a day or two but eventually notifications will stop working again. For me it is only with Bluetooth. I hook up different Bluetooth headphones and they all do the same thing which is not play a notification sound in the headphone. If I disconnect Bluetooth the phone plays a notification sound just fine.

You mean if I just disconnect my earbuds I will hear my sounds again? That's awesome because I never wanted to use my expensive earbuds ever again. This has got to be the stupidest fix I ever heard of.

Settings >Notifications>Advanced Settings> Scroll to bottom> Manage Notification categories for each app. Once that is turned on, the custom settings appear in apps like Google Messages.
This took me 3 days and a lot of frustration to figure out. Seems more logical to have this function turned on by default....

Well maybe that will work for someone but certainly not me. I've done everything in the book. This is a Samsung problem and hopefully they will address it someday. You should not even have to go through all those steps just to hear a text message. Anyways as a workaround I went into modes and routines. I created a routine that says if I receive a text message to play a beep. That seems to work great and I can actually enjoy my phone since the day I bought it back in what February.

TL;DR - Bluetooth devices in general
So i've had my 24+ for less than 18 hours, and i didn't notice my notification sounds for the entire system (not one app, not a specific app, not a toggled setting) was not working. When opening the all the sound properties for all the different sounds (ring, notification, alarm, system) the only one that didn't make a sound when I moved the slider bar, was the NOTIFICATION audio.....in either direction.
So after reviewing some of the posting on here, i saw people removed their bluetooth headset/earbuds and started working. That didn't work for me. I had to disable bluetooth altogether to get my notification sound from the system AND from the apps to work. Up until this point i had a Pixel Watch, and a Beats Earbuds. nothing else.
I deleted/unpaired the earbuds, and that didn't work. however, when i shut off bluetooth, that immediately allowed my notifications (Teams, outlook, facebook, and just using the system/sounds/notification slider bar) to start making sounds.
This tells me somewhere that the audio is either being ported through a Bluetooth device (likely a setting somwhere either in the bluetooth or in the watch app, for me) or the system doesn't understand to use local speakers for notifications.
If i find an update, i'll post back.

It would appear that the notification mute on phone was enabled, and this is what was causing my phone to not get notifications.
if you have any bluetooth devices that either have their own app settings, OR in BT there's a setting for your device that looks like this, it may be something to check.
Good luck!
Mute Notifications - Turned on for BT only

If you go into Notification Sound and click on a different sound does it play right away or do you have to click it a second time to hear it? after it plays fine all the reset play fine until you go out and then back in. Or just wait a few seconds and the first press will be silent again. Remember this is a Bluetooth thing only. Any brand of bluetooth I try does the same thing. For me it is only text messages and thats a pain because you need someone elses phone to test it.

appologies if this has already been said here but 4 pages was tldr. i had a similar issue and it turned out that my bluetooth headphones in the bluetooth settings was set as an 'other' device instead of 'headphones'. i had notifications and system sounds greyed out which was super frustrating because if i was using my headphones the phone wouldnt even tell me if it was about to die.
