Hi

Lovely People.

I get this weird annoying moving banding effect while watching YouTube videos with the phone horizontal and if they have a grayish background.

It's quiet noticeable and annoying.

If I zoom out the video it's gone as then the grey borders are filled with the video content albeit the video is then cropped due to the fill.

I have also noticed it in some YouTube videos as well when the youtuber has maybe a pale coloured background.

Thoughts welcome.

That might be the ambient setting on YouTube. You have to turn it off in the YouTube app.

Make sure a video is playing and then click on the cog (settings) icon > Additional Settings > Ambient Mode and toggle this.

Hope this helps.

Thank you . That did it.

It turns the side bars black so it's no longer a distraction.

Everyday you learn something new.

Never noticed it on my s21 ultra.

Ambient Mode on You Tube  creates immersive  experience by allowing the Borders to  disaplay a subtle colour gradient, may not necessarily be appealing though. Apparently only works in Dark Mode.  https://www.jagranjosh.com/general-knowledge/tech-guide-what-is-the-ambient-mode-on-youtube-

Well. I'm back. The banding issue is still present if the you tubers have like a grey background for their videos.

Is this a youtube issues or phone issue?

Check the video below especially when the video is on the youtuber . Check the banding on his background.
