Sporting G24 Ultra now and absolutely love it. Have a little issue that could be resolved via software though. Due to my work I'm driving a lot and my company vehicle has android auto but only through USB which means the phone is constantly charging. This is surely not healthy for the battery. Battery settings allow you to stop charging above 80% but sometimes my battery does go down lower than that between jobs. I would love to see an option prevent phone from charging till it's let's say around 20/25%.

Change it to basic protection and it will stop changing when it reaches 100%

The advice I offer is my own and does not represent Samsung’s position.

I know but the problem then occurs during longer drives. It stops charging at 100% then battery goes down to 99% and charges again. Ideally I'd love it to go down to around 25/20% while connected and then start charging automatically. So basically just like 80% charge limit we currently have in settings, just much lower.

How would the phone know when to charge or not when plugged in though? Also if your main concern is battery health then letting your battery going down below 50% is worse than letting it on 80%. Avoiding battery cycles should be your priority for battery health, a cycle is a full charge/discharge, so small charge between 50% and 80% is better than a big charge from very low battery for example.

But it does know doesn't it? With battery protect on one of the settings prevents phone from charging when plugged in as long as battery is above 80%. Having another option of lower threshold (or adjustable treshold) would be perfect for my needs. I have to have my phone plugged in every time I'm driving. Drives are of variable time - sometimes it's 20 minutes and sometimes it's 2 hours. This means that every time I'm driving I have to put my phone through another charging cycle if it's below 80%. And surely small charge is better than big charge but no charge is perfect when the charge is actually not needed.

I could imagine one mode which the device would charge to 80%, stop and not restarting charging until dropping below 50% for example, but that would only work if the phone was always plugged in, otherwise it would assume each first plug you want to charge it.

Ah I got it now, but still, let's say you can customise that upper charging threshold, you set it to 50%, your phone will just stop charging when it reaches 50%. You'd have to manually change it back to 80 or 100 every time though.

I would also say small charge is better than no charge, if your battery is between 50 and 80%. Small top up when possible is better, avoiding it dropping it below 50%. With the upper threshold of 80% and i think this is keeping your battery in the perfect spot all the time. Saying that, more customisation is always nice, so why not.

It's more about discharging. Example: I'm setting off on the road in the morning with 100%. Plugging phone in to access android auto. Battery goes down to let's say 95% during 1 hour drive with Bluetooth connected, audiobook playing etc. Then I'm arriving at my first job. Making several photos/videos, listening to the music during work and using torch. Battery goes down to 75% because usage has been extensive. I'm setting off to next job which is only 20-30 minutes away but I have to plug the phone again to access android auto. By the time I do arrive at the next job battery is at 80% again and stopped charging as per the only battery protect setting that's suitable right now. It's 5% of charge I did not need and that was not healthy for the battery. If I could lower it down to say 20% and then just charge it back to 80% or 100% it would be much more convenient and definitely healthier for the battery.
