Backup Options

Having recently had to do a factory reset on my S24+ with no backup available, I am now (a bit late in the day ) somewhat paranoid about ensuring I make regular backups. As there are two options available, Samsung Cloud, and Google Drive, . is anyone prepared to offer advice as to which is best (and simplest) to use?

This. There's nothing like your backup being yours. + with ufc4 and a good (fast) flash drive u can get 400mb/s speeds, transferring gigabytes worth of data in seconds, faster than any cloud storage + the backup remains in your control and as a bonus u don't have to share your data, at least not all of it... with big tech although I do acknowledge most people unfortunately don't care about privacy anyway.

@AndrewL: may I ask if you back up everything possible to both Samsung Cloud AND Google or do you back up some to Samsung Cloud and the rest to Google?

@OmegaMutant: I'm about to do a hybrid back up to Samsung Cloud and Google Photos. Never used Google Photos before. Mind if I ask if I need to switch to using Google Photo app instead of the default photos app on the phone please?

@keith30: do you split the back up across Samsung Cloud and Google or do everything to Samsung Cloud as well as Google, please?

You dont need to no - any photos youve taken and will take will stay in the gallery but will also appear in Google Photos. You can use either 🙂

Samsung Cloud hasn't backed up photos for 5 years, they've outsourced backup to Microsoft, and you only get 5GB for free there. You have to pay for more. Google gives you 15GB for free for backups, but that includes all Google apps, you have to pay for more.
