YouTube battery drain & overheating issues

The YouTube app causes my Samsung phone to overheat after a random amount of time. Since I can’t uninstall and reinstall the app, clearing the cache and storage or force stopping it only provides a temporary fix. This issue seems to be specific to the YouTube app, as it only started happening in the past few weeks. As a YouTube Premium subscriber, this makes the app nearly unusable.

On Reddit you can see a lot of similar posts.

I have the same problem. Previously with the S24 Ultra, and now with the S25 Ultra. Randomly, YouTube overheats the phone and drains the battery. I always use the phone the same way, but this issue happens randomly. Unfortunately, it's becoming more frequent. I was wondering if it might be a problem with my mobile carrier because (I think) it only happens when using mobile data, not Wi-Fi. All the ridiculous tips from websites or YouTube videos are useless! Has anyone found a solution?

In my case it happens with WiFi. The only solution so far is to force stop the app and then delete the cache... Very annoying. And it appears as if many devices are affected. However, it also seems as if Samsung phones are particularly affected. Keep reporting the issue to Samsung and YouTube.

No not the carrier because many ppl with different carriers are having the same issue. Samsung is acting like nothing is wrong and that's the worst part. They've lost me as a future customer on anything they make.

Youtube doesn't care. They keep saying the fix is enabling battery saving mode and lower resolution and dim the stupid screen. Samsung also doesn't care. They have become a money hungry company. They act like none of this is happening. I'm finished with samsung. So are my patience.

Well they acknowledged the issue in my case - but said it's YouTube's responsibility to fix it. But YouTube support is awful. For a paid service, it's pathetic.

Yea. YouTube is horrible with caring what the customer need and want. They've also become outrageous with how much they silence ppl on there in the comments section. It's not looking like YouTube cares enough to address the issues with battery drain and phones getting hot. Guess not enough people are affected in their opinion. I've gotten 10 to 12 updates on the YouTube app since I got this phone and none of them fix the issue. That's crazy!

To be fair, Samsung is not responsible for Youtube's problems, Google is.

Youtube... they do keep changing things and have fixed some bugs, but new ones inevitably keep cropping up. I wish they at least went out and said "ok, look, we have this issue. We're not sure what causes it. Send us device logs maybe."

Yes. Youtube app has updated 12 times since I've gotten this new s24 ultra. With NO fix! The phone gets so hot and battery drains so fast while on the app. They don't even acknowledge it. They tell you stupid useless information like, "turn down brightness and lower resolution and turn battery saving on and watch on wifi only and hold your breath and tap your stomach and wish upon a star and it might work." its ridiculous! It's happening on s23 models s24 models and now the wonderful s25 mini portable heaters as well. Yes it's up to google to fix the issue but I was in hopes if we tell samsung the issues as well that they would get ahold of Youtube to let them know the issue as well. Guess not! Now im trying to leave a report to their service team and its asking me for an order number or order ID and i put it in there and its not taking it. How freaking convenient is that?!  Thanks for the reply!

It's getting worse again recently. I'm getting so annoyed by this. Can't the app delete cache itself?

I had this issue for over a year without any soultions! It happened with my S22, S23 and S24. Its crazy! That this issue is not resolved. I had to findout what triggers the insane heating and battery drain.

Watching youtube normally will not cause the phone to heat up and drain my battery and I tested this in my 3 phones and it proves to be a software issue.

I found out as soon as I comment on any youtube video, something triggers the phone to overheat and causes the battery to drain so fast.

The only soultion I found is after any comment that I post on youtube I have to close youtube and go to the app info and (Force Stop) the app. I have to do that after every time I comment on Youtube to stop my phones from cooking my hand and killing my battery.

This is absoulty ridiculous that this issue is been going on for over a year and no one is doing anything about it.
