S23 Ultra USB for file transfer not showing up

There is a bug whereby the USB for file transfer not showing up after plugging USB to the laptop. It only allows you to charge the phone. Without the detection, you are unable to transfer file (phone to laptop) or use Android Auto. The only workaround is to plug on the USB and restart your phone, then the USB for file transfer will only show up.

Haave exactly the same issue with all 6 of my Samsung devices (3 phones and 3 tablets) It is not a cable issue as I bought a NOKIA C32 and this connects to the pc with no issues. I have tried the 6 devices on 2 desktops and a laptop and the same thing happens each time, they show as charging but not in explorer. The nokia showed up each time using different combinations of USB cable. This points to it being a Samsung software issue. I have tried all the google suggestions for USB settings etc etc, none of these has any impact.

Samsung, just like Apple, wants you to buy their own data cable. They want MORE of your hard-earned money. That is the only way to fix your USB problem. Unfortunately. Like you, I tried everything but none worked.

I had similar issue a while back connecting to my system and found it was due to the USB cable. I tried a normal USB to C cable initially which didn't work and later changed to a cable which supports fast charging. Can see the Transfer file option now.

Same issue appeared recently with my Samsung G23. Tried with new original samsung usb-c cable and still no usb file transfer. Even with debugging, nothing

i have same issue after UI-7 Update but little bit different.. 

when i connect my  SAMSUNG S23 ULTRA to my PC or LAPTOP its start charging then auto stop after 2-3 seconds and not showing any kind of pop-up like USB DATA TRANSFER or USB SETTINGS and also not detecting any kind of pen drive with my samsung OTG connector. SAMSUNG UI-7 update is worst for me.

I tried plugging in the phone to the USB and restarting the phone.  No change!

When the S23 phone was selected the PC message was "No folders found"

Normally, after selecting S23, all of the folders are shown, which includes the pictures.

I did not have this problem until after the "Update" that was installed within the last 10days.

@Grandma1: When you connect your Galaxy S23 to your PC, swipe from the top of the screen to the bottom to open your Notification panel, and look for a USB connection notification. Tap to expand the the notification, and check to see if there is a 'File transfer' option. It is possible that the default connection option has changed following the update, but this should hopefully resolve the issue for you.

Was working OK, UNTIL I installed the UI8.0 upgrade 11/2025. Now the USB port is only recognized for charging. I tried everything from swapping cables, computers, Debug mode, etc. I have 2 Samsung S23 ULTRA 1 TB cell phones and BOTH fail to recognize connection to PC and USB flash drives. The same cables initially used were the same ones as before the UI8.0 upgrade. The Verizon tech told me to UNINSTALL the UI8.0 upgrade. I asked to speak to the superior and got disconnected. Technician guesswork !
