S23 Ultra Main Camera Low light focus issue

Is anyone else having the same issue?
So I was playing around comparing my old S22 Ultra to the new S23 Ultra and found the camera to be improved in all ways except when it comes to trying to focus in very low light.

So when trying to take a picture of the night sky, with my house in the background, I found the S22 ultra seems to focus near instantly and I can get a good night mode picture of the stars, even the brick work on the house is on focus.

However with the S23 Ultra, the camera doesn't focus and just sits blurry, if I turned on a light in one of the upstairs windows then it gets enough light to focus and will take a detailed sharp photo.

It seems like the laser autofocus on the S22 ultra works in pitch black and not on my S23.

Well then, as much as I liked the Spigen lens covers I might have to look into another brand. Thanks for this. 👍

That's alright. Yeah I like spigen too but I have their galaxy edition zeroone case which looks like the internals of the phone printed on the back, and the lens covers sit above the case slightly. However it looks like the ESR ones would sit below the case lens cut out offering more protection

Yes my brand S23 ultra will not focus to get a dark picture and it's driving me nuts. Every time I try to take a picture of my kids sleeping it just gets blurry and stays blurry. 🙄

Same issue. Did you put a camera cap? It started after I put the cap.

If you have lens covers on then it looks like it's interfering with the laser autofocus which it uses to help assist in low light. I'd recommend the ESR lenses as they work perfectly. If you don't have lenses on then you can check if your laser autofocus is working by opening the camera app in a dark room on your s23, and using another device open the camera app and you'll see a light from the lens on the s23.

I also have this problem. I was doing a hyperlapse with star tracking but it was not in focus. Also did a night mode and pro mode on a long exposure same result.

The ESR lens protectors I ordered should be here this weekend. Thanks for the tip Chappers87.

By the way, I emailed Spigen a few days back about all this and they got back to me asking for details about the issue, some examples I'd photographed, and the batch number of the lens protectors I bought from them.

I wrote them back with all that. I'll post here if they respond with anything worthwhile.
