Now keep note this phone has been in a case since i got it, and i've been using my "gamesir 3 usb c" the back of the phone already has some minor cosmetic scratches... WTF?

So much for gorilla glass, i don't see or feel any glass, it feels like a bit of plastic and such, my motorola G30 has never scratched this easily, EVER!

WTF?
Keep noted if you don't want your s23 getting ruined, put a skin over it and also use a case, "Vinyl sticker/skin"

---

edit the back is 100% metal and trash easy to scratch metal

THIS IS NOT WHAT I CALL GLASS , using my webcamera to take the picture, glkass doesnt leave silver looking metal coloured scratches! on black paint, oh and the samsung name on the bottom where my imie number is, you can feel  how it's stickered in or whatever.

NOW UNLESS AMERICANS AND KOREANS HAVE NOW GONE AHEAD AND CHANGED THE MEANING OF GLASS, THEN Isomeone needs too tell the rest of the worldWIN_20230214_22_30_19_Pro.jpg

I always say, treat your phone like your beer glass. You always look after that 😉

Hi, sorry to hear that your device has gotten scratches already with minor use, because of your heads up I've just ordered a full body screen protector, from (Gadgetshieldz) front & back for £9.09p with about £2 delivery & import fee.
Thanks for the heads up.

You raise a valid observation that even S22 Ultra didn't have a glass like feel on its back. I've no idea whether it's a marketing trick or not...

However I've seen a YT video where a guy is sliding around a Stanley knife on the back of a S23 Ultra without any scratches... That was a green one.

I do hope that Samsung aren't messing us about but you're in the return period. Try a return due to expectations not met?

It's clearly glass, you don't get shatter patterns all over metal as can be seen from drop tests.

then explain my picture above and the metal like scratches.. that clearly shouldn't appear on glass!

could try going in for a replacement, i'll try tomorrow! thanks for the tip!, if not, i'll do a chargeback :smiling-face:

Tell my bank that samsung claimed it was glass, but then i'll show them my picture! also if you have the S22/S23 tap the back gently on your teeth, it's 100% metal..

could always buy it again, even if using a different card XD i have a bank account with a few different banks :smiling-face:

That is more than likely the oleophobic coating. In any case, glass scratches too and if mistreated, any phone will develop scratch marks.

I suppose my own caution would be that Samsung surely only use one type of case... Surely they wouldn't use different materials on the same phone?

Possible Evidence: phone case varies from shiny to matt texture on sides depending on the case colour you pick. My graphite phone has matt sides. Looks cheap but under a case, I don't care so much.

Yes, I mistrust Samsung that much these days!!

I can appreciate that perception and reality of a customer doesn't match the marketing speil... Even if it is 'glass'.

I treat my phone with kid gloves.. And it ought not really be that way...

Putting this official info we've got at our side here:

Specs:

Front: Gorilla® Glass Victus® 2

Rear: Gorilla® Glass Victus® 2

Cam: GG3

Frame: AL7N03

Cam Deco: AL6013

The Galaxy S23 series cover glass is applied with a matte haze method to prevent fingerprint marks and stains from smearing it. On the back glass of Galaxy S23 Phantom Black color, when a solid object such as a fingernail touches the back glass a white scratch mark may be seen more clearly because of the darker color.

This is a natural phenomenon according to the characteristics of the finish (haze) method applied to the rear cover (back glass), the fingerprint mark or dusts can easily removed by rubbing with hand or wiping smoothly with a clean and soft cloth.

Haze: coating method for finish on the surface of materials

Not 100% sure which S23 Ultra variant you’ve got @InsanityGaming,  but a Samsung Support Centre can check out if something's as it should or shouldn't be for you.
