After happily giving my S24+ exynos trash back a few weeks ago, I noticed the AOD notifications were not colourful anymore and couldn't be changed to colour. Just a dull and boring white. I hated it. Anyways, purchased a lovely S23 ultra for dirt cheap and I read somewhere that when the S23 models get the one ui 6.1 upgrade, they too will have the same. Could anyone clarify if this is this true please?

My bad, i read your post wrong. You could try to use goodlock in order to change the colours.

Lol, no worries. I tried that when I had the S24 but nothing worked. It's a new thing now from Samsung apparently. I would hate it if the S23 models also got it. Really think the S24 models have been trash. Definitely not worth an upgrade from the S23 models.

Surprised that the always on display is held in such high regard... even to the point that the AOD colour can make a decision whether to get a phone or not.

I have to admit that the colour of the clock and AOD makes it a bit more funky, but I see this cosmetic feature of low importance. Surely the high spec camera / screen / processor / size / s pen / 6.1 features are all more important than a colour AOD ?

Who's mentioned anything about the AOD affecting a decision to buy a phone or not?

I'm guessing you were also happy with the washed out colours on the display they just fixed? I've owned Samsungs from day dot and just don't think they are giving us our moneys worth. You say high spec cameras and screen. A lot of people will confidently say there are better cameras and sensors on other phones. And how many people are super annoyed with the grainy screen which you called high spec? I gave back my S24 + exynos because of the washed out colours and rubbish performance including cameras. My S23 regular last year performed so much better. I spoke with Samsung next day after my purchase and they told me an update is coming to fix the issue with the washed out colours vivid/natural not working properly. A week later, they told me that this was deliberately done to give a more natural look which tbh looked 💩. I was giving it a chance especially after seeing some promising reviews with the exynos chip but all in all, horrible experience I had just like many others. If you do say your experience has been great, then have a look at all the bad experiences others had. The S24 models are not a worthy upgrade over the S23 models whatsoever! The camera's should be cutting edge technology and it just isn't. I used an oppo find x5pro last year (just for a weekend), and the camera's were much better than any Samsung I've used. I'm not calling you a fan boy but so many Samsung fans seem to be settling for a lot less nowadays and that's just awful. I was considering the one plus 12 but ended up buying an S23 ultra 12g 512g for only £500 which I consider a steal. It's also great not having a contract to worry about. The S23 ultra is a nice phone and many people have kept theirs over the S24 ultra as it's just not an upgrade. These ultra flagship phones are the pinnacle of Samsung phones and simply have to have the best of the best which it doesn't. The last contract I had was a beautiful S105g back in 2019. That phone had everything especially great cameras with TOF sensors front and rear cameras. Two years in a row now I've bought Samsungs phones on the cheap ad I don't agree with the ridiculous price they charge for what they give you. I went the S24+ because I had a brilliant deal given to me but I guess fate proved otherwise. This'll sound crazy maybe but there's something about Samsung odd number phones that are always better than the even ones. I bet the S25 ultra will completely trash the S24 ultra. Shame the S24 ultra couldn't trash the S23 ultra...

Wow. I guess that dug up a whole can of worms !

Who said I had an s24 😀. I have an s23 ultra.

Great phone. Great experience. Your s23 ultra is a steal for £500.

My reasons for talking about AOD was your original post was based completely around that function and the loss of colour to the AOD. But it is clear your issues with S24 are a lot deeper.

When s23 receives 6.1... it may have some of the s24 features (and some things perhaps taken away that it previously had).

Usually as with all pre-release... these bugs are resolved within a couple of months, you mention the washed out display and camera issues. Vivd is back... and camera will be fixed and tweaked. The S23 had its own 'teething problems' too... as did the S22... as did the s21.

I guess I could be called a fanboy... as I have owned an S3, S4, S6 Edge. S8+, s10+, s21 ultra and now S23 ultra. Various watches and buds as well.

I enjoy the samsung experience and don't see any reason to change. Have been tempted with Google pixels of late... but unless Samsung really upset me then I will stay put. Of course I can see there are some disgraceful instances of customer service and other problems. Thankfully these have never happened to me... if they did then the pixel may get my business.

For the meantime I will stay with my superb s23 ultra. 👍

Yikes, the impression I got from your first comment came across like you owned one 🤣 sorry and my bad 🤭

I too love the S23 ultra and apart from the weight lol. It's manageable though. The bloke wanted £750 for it but I did sales years ago and talked him down lol. He'd just bought the S24 ultra.

I enquired about the pixel pro8 and the guy wanted £600. 12g 512g. I nearly took the deal but decided to watch more content regarding performance etc. It was depressing especially battery life. I noticed a lot of people selling their pixels aswell lol. I stayed well away from it and knew deep down the ultra will do nicely with reliability and performance. I'm loving the speakers and battery life.

Unpopular opinion, would you prefer the camera cut out in the corner or middle? When I used the oppo, it was in the corner and far less intrusive I found. I think it's better tucked away rather than middle top of screen. Pet hate but heyho...👍🏻

I found nothing the S23 Ultra had superior to the S24 Ultra in any way. Not to say the S23 Ultra wasn't a great phone, but the S24 is just better in every way, most especially the screen.
