First, I will assume this is a Samsung feature - Settings / Display / Navigation bar / Show button to hide keyboard.
While it's great to have that feature, that button (bottom left in the photo) and the bar on which it resides, takes up a sh*tload of screen real estate.
Am I the only to complain about this? (I should also add, I'm using the MS Launcher and the SwiftKey keyboard though switching keyboards or launcher, does not change the size of that bar.)
I'll attach a screen shot.

@davehorne: I'm sorry to hear of your disappointment surrounding this feature. If you have Swipe gestures enabled, then the 'Show button to hide keyboard' option will place the button in the area where the navigation bar would usually be positioned. If you disable this setting, are you able to tap on the screen above the keyboard to minimise/hide it?

Andrew, my original post was just a minor suggestion, disappointment is a bit overstated, me thinks.
If I disable Show button to hide keyboard, simply touching the screen with my finger or S-Pen above the keyboard, makes the keyboard disappear.
My suggestion was really just a very minor one though that button does reside on a very large bar.

My apologies, @davehorne. When you tap on the screen to minimise the keyboard, you should be able to tap on a text input field so it pops back up. Can you give this a try for me, and let me know how you get on?

Your suggestion works as well.
The 'back' button / swipe on the navigation bar did the trick.
Thanks!
