Same issue... drove me crazy.
Easy fix. Just switch from swipe back to buttons.
Go to settings, navigation and go back to buttons. Looks like a bad bug that they broke the swipe with the new circle feature and haven't fixed it yet.

Except if you are in an app where you are typing (eg WhatsApp) and you swipe from the right when your keyboard open... now it makes a space in your typed area. So now you must first close keyboard and the swipe right just to see what you gave typed. Ridiculous. I hate it and hope they will fix.

I use swipe gesture as my option for recent apps, last page, etc. Just this morning when I swipe to go to a recent app the background/home screen starts flashing/blinking real fast. Can't be a good thing. Hoping my S23 isn't about to brick. Anyone else experience anything similar to this? Just noticed if I hold my finger down on the app before swiping away everything blinks really fast even the app icons. This is not normal.

Worked it out, start on the new center bar and short swipe up and hold. Works for me!

Same issue here with my fold 5 after updating to the latest software update on AT&T. There's really no point in attempting help from samsung they'll jusy give us generic troubleshooting which doesn't fix anything and we'll have to wait at least another 3 months for them fix this issue. This also happened to me when I had the fold 2 back then same thing updated to a newer software and ended up bricking my bluetooth and also taking away the back feature on the lower left part of the screen. If samsung would've had great customer service they would definitely put apple to shame but unfortunately that's not the case.
