6.1 UI Update, swipe gestures don't appear to work?

Good morning world, after downloading the 6.1 Update this morning the UI reverted to out the box settings, guessing to allow the CIRCLE feature. Once I restored the swipe gesture, I found swiping from the bottom left no longer shows my recent apps and swiping from the bottom right no longer let's me go back?

Currently, where ever I swipe up from sends me back to the home screen.

Have a lovely day, thanks for any support

I have the same issue and problem however I have now found if you drag up from bottom of the screen to the middle and hold. It allows you to see open and recent apps? Hope this helps. I would prefers wipe up from bottom left again spent an hour trying to figure this out

I think you are describing the problem I have - but I have it worse. I too have a Z-Fold 5. Swipe up and swipe in from the right achieve 'home' and 'back' ok, but I simply don't have a 'recents' option if my settings are for swipe gestures. When I swipe in from the left I just get 'back' - the same as if I had swiped in from the right.

I'm with the responders who don't much like their phones any more. The screen area is valuable real estate and I don't want to pollute it with unnecessary buttons.

Just seen the reply from Shannon26. Thanks. That sorts the problem for me.

Thank you for that. It worked. I was wondering how to get to my recent apps.

Same. Disabled gestures for now . Must be related to upgrading with gestures switched on. I'll dig more tomorrow.

Full credit to poster tbtravels360, but the best solution to get the original functionality back is that - https://youtu.be/gTNgU_PKNvg

If you want to understand the new functionality & get an approximate equivalent to the original functionality, see below:

It's painful - but the TL;DR of a bunch of these replies is this...

  1. Locate "navigation type" in your settings (use the search feature within your settings).
  2. Set to "swipe gestures".
  3. Leave Assistant App & Circle to Search enabled.
  4. To view recent/running apps, swipe up from the bottom of the screen & pause briefly after swiping, before lifting your finger - this will bring up the recent/running apps.
  5. The "back" gesture is to swipe in from either edge of the sides of your screen - swiping left from the right edge or swiping right from the left edge is the "back" gesture.
  6. Swipe up without a pause to go back to your home screen - simply swiping up is the "home" gesture.
  7. Pressing and holding on the little bar/line at the very bottom of the screen will bring up the "Circle to search" feature.
  8. Swiping up from the VERY bottom left corner OR the VERY bottom right corner (absolutely in the actual corners, not just to the left or right) will bring up Assistant.

This is the same with me. I loved the swipe up gestures, makes room on the screen and not gesturing from left and right helps when editing pics and vids. I am so unhappy they got rid of it 😭
