Text archive swipe - can you turn it off?

I can't figure out how to turn off the archive swipe feature in text messaging and regularly swipe a message and it goes away - can this be turned off?

A friend with a S21 has it off but she couldn't remember how she got it to go away.

I can't get it to work. When I go to the three dot setting there's no option to change how you swipe. Is it because I'm using the stock texting app?

Can anyone tell me if S23 ultra can archive text messages. As I do like that option

This didn't work for my S21. I had to click on my PHOTO which took me to Messages settings where both swipe right and left were both options and turned them both off.
