Text archive swipe - can you turn it off?

I can't figure out how to turn off the archive swipe feature in text messaging and regularly swipe a message and it goes away - can this be turned off?

A friend with a S21 has it off but she couldn't remember how she got it to go away.

I just changed from iphone to samsung and this right here is plain stupid functionality thats not needed. A basic update swipe left to "read" swipe right to "delete" its not hard to do come on!

Useless swipe its annoying me, change it to read so i dont need to go into the text message

Swipe to Archive needs to go away and go away fast.

I totally agree with Tim. This is really bad design. Swipe to Archive is a useless and totally annoying feature. Please fix this Samsung. No one wants it or likes it. 

I just recently switched from a good easy to use phone to Samsung that is ridden with issues and makes you double work to do 1 simple task.  I totally regret buying a Samsung and will warn everyone I come across to make them aware.

Just dowload the messages app from the Samsung store and set it as your default. Stop using the Google one.

I figured it out. Open your messages and tap on the three dots to open settings. From there, go down to swipe actions. Click on customize for Swipe right and left and select off.

No more archiving messages!

I can't get it to work. When I go to the three dot setting there's no option to change how you swipe. Is it because I'm using the stock texting app?
