Samsung Phone app proximity issues

Hi there,

Been experiencing weird issues with the default Phone app on my S22 Ultra. Does not matter if I am initiating a phone call or receiving one, once I take my phone off my ear, during the phone call, the proximity sensor is stuck, keeping the screen off. Initially I suspected the sensor is faulty at either hw level or sw level, but then I tried using Google's Phone app, and with this app I am not seeing the same behaviour.

I've had this issue on Android 12 Oct Update and now the same with Android 13 Nov Update.

Tried to clear the cache for the phone app...same issue. I don't have a problem using Google's Phone app but this needs to be addressed.

Hi @roastedwookie ,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having this issue with the Phone app on your S22 Ultra. In order to get this sorted I would recommend you sending an Error Report to our engineers by following the steps listed here: [TIPS] How to submit an error report on Samsung Me... - Samsung Members

Hi,

Yep, done that. Weird thing is it seems the Google's Phone app started doing the same. I've seen quite a few people complaining about the proximity sensor bugs after I believe October's update.

@roastedwookie: Please can you try heading to the Phone app, dial *#0*# into the telephone keypad, and select 'Sensor' from the series of grey tiles. Now, place your forefinger horizontally across the top of the phone so it covers the front camera. Does the phone vibrate, and the screen turn green?

There is no proximity sensor in that menu.

The issue happens randomly, not all the time.
